It's been confirmed!!!

Jerry (and the boys) are coming back to Atlanta to TeamFord for more Dyno-tuning!!!

This will also coincide with our next months "Marauder Breakfast Club"...SO...start making plans, all of you that want to drive in.

(Maybe you North Carolina boys want to make a "joint-meet" out of it?)

Anyone wanting to make appointments needs to call:

Gary Hood
Team Ford of Marietta
(678) 581-4792 direct #

Tell him you heard about it here!

I have a question: are repetitive tunes necessary or warranted? Not the Radar Love type of tunes, but these Fordchip dynotunes. If re-tunes are necessary, do they always cost the same amount as the first tune?

Thanks.

Kenny,

You need to call Gary...or if you are coming to breakfast tomorrow morning, and want to go over to Team Ford after (whether you want to Dyno the car tomorrow for a baseline or not)...Gary will be there tomorrow and you can make an appointment then.

Mike,

To answer your question...No...multiple tunes are not necessary. I'm going to go again because I will have some new "goodies" installed by then that I may want to incorporate in a new tune. "Re-tunes" are discounted significantly versus getting it done the first time.

Tom,

Saturday at 8:00 am will be our Monthly Breakfast??!! Ask for it for like 10:00 am or so, instead. BTW...you guys interested in a "joint-meet"?

*Yes, ladies and gentlemen....a TRIPLE quote response*

I've left Gary a message so I can schedule my slot.

TAF, could you post in this thread the address details for breakfast, where the dyno tune is taking place, and maybe some nearby hotel suggestions?

Now... I've got some other questions. Please forgive if they are muy estupido but better estupido now than estupido later.

I need the tuning. It'll likely be my only performance mod until (or near) the end of 3yr/36000mi.

But... I am fence sitting. Choices are CHIP, FLASH, or SuperChips. Right now I am here: CHIP 40%, FLASH 40%, SuperChips 20%.

If I go CHIP and I have a serious warranty issue that would give the dealer a reason to examine the PCM, it would be obvious that it had been modded even if I took the chip out. There is the 'window' for the chip, the lack of the 'conformal' coating on the contacts, and apparently a 'one time use' bolt that mounts the PCM inside the car.

Are the PCM covers unique from car to car? Like stickered/imprinted with some identification? If not, could my trepidation be addressed by simply keeping an unmodified cover for chip uninstalled service visits?

Would the lack of the 'conformal' coating be an issue? What is that stuff anyway? Can I get some?

That 'one time use' bolt... is that supposed to be a tamper indicator of sorts? Can I get some new ones?

TAF helped me to understand that there would have to be an extreme circumstance that would cause the dealer to even look at the PCM. And flash as they may, the chip remains and does what it does.

The FLASH is clean. No need to crack open the PCM and the no way to trace the alteration. But... yikes, the dealer tech could simply flash over it again as part of routine maintenance.

I could tell them not to reflash it without my permission (as was suggested to me in another thread). Given the communicative skills I've seen so far between advisors and techs, that request may not get conveyed effectively. And wouldn't that request be a strong indicator that I done something to it?

SuperChips sounds interesting from the standpoint that I can flash back the original programming at will. But when folks that know better than I (like DR) say that the custom tuning is superior, I want superior.

The last question about all this... Am I just thinking too much and being paranoid?

TAF, yes. You brought the chip from the back to the front for me. That's what got me noodling on the 2nd PCM cover in case I gotta take the MM in for 'ticking' engine or something major like that.

I just spoke with Gary @ Team Ford. From my past experiance, the FordChip boys like to do "like" cars in a row...i.e. a group of Marauders, then Mustangs, then Cobras, etc.

I asked him to group us together beginning at around 10:00am so we can all head over after breakfast. Those of you that have been there before...it's kinda cool when a caravan of Marauders come pulling in with all the other folks standing around. So whether you're coming for the tune or not...come join us for the breakfast and ride over with us for the tune. And, those of you that have called Gary...try him again...if you get his voicemail...tell him you've got a Marauder and you are looking for those appointments beginning around 10:00am on Saturday the 15th.

How many we got so far?

Honestly Bob...there is no comparison to getting this done and the Micro-tuner...although, since these guys are now going to be THE guys at SuperChips...maybe they can give you some insight. It would be cool to have the custom program that they can do for you on the Dyno-tune put on the Micro-tuner...

Agent M79

...what would be really cool is if you could get the EEC flashed and then upload that program into the SuperChips Tuner instead of the factory flash...

I think I can make this trip just to enjoy the presence of all those Marauders in one location, :bounce: and to be a spectator on the side lines. I will not be getting the Dyno Tune "unfortunately", :depress: but I can take some notes on what to expect for future Dyno Tunes. :P

Also I'll have the privilege of meeting SergntMac with his Marauder S, and the legend himself, Dennis hopefully with his SuperCharged Marauder. Awesome.

I have a possible mitigating circumstance affecting my appearance for this.

I have the "ticking" in the cylinder head. If this turns out to be a tick in my imagination, I'm there. If it's a ticking in my cylinder head, then it'll depend on when they fix it.

[fingers crossed]

Dave,

Come here and let the best Marauder Tech in the world look at it.

Agent M79
10-28-2003, 10:19 AM
TAF,

Yeah? Who is that? I am seriously interested.

The tech at my dealership is not a real customer-interactive type. Either that's how he is or that's how they told him to be, I can't tell.

I am trying to reach another tech in the area who I know will take the time to look into it and... well... essentially hold my hand.

If I could get there as well and have "the best Marauder Tech" in the world look at it, that would be great.

Also, I have PM'd wchain from Innovative Interceptors to ask the following (paraphrased) question:

If I have the EEC directly programmed at the dyno tune (no add-on chip), can the SuperChips tuner upload that special tuning as the stock program?

The SuperChips Tuner locks itself to a single particular vehicle and as part of the process for doing so is supposed to upload the factory tune.

If anyone else knows the answer to that, let me know.

Dave...2 things.

1) If you want to take care of it over the next couple of weeks, go by Vantage Lincoln-Mercury in Charlotte and see Russell. He can help you, or will do his best to help you. They are located at 5201 E. Independence Blvd. Charlotte , NC 28212. Call 704-535-7810 and ask for Russell in service and tell him who you are and you're from the board.

2) Or try to get down here on Friday and I'll hook you up with Scott Levin. Scott is a Ford Master Tech and he takes care of ALL of our Marauders at Team Ford...he is the BEST!!!

Let me know if I can do anything else.

Agent M79

Thanks for the response.

I did contact frdwrnch and I'll see him at the latest, Nov 8th during the Carolina Marauders meet. If I can get an afternoon or morning off, I may stop in and see him sooner but the likelyhood of that is pretty slim.

So far, the ticking/clatter noise can't be heard the same way other "tickers" can hear theirs. I only hear it with the windows up and everything else off. I may be sensitized to the problem and I am catching it early or there is something else going on.

Thanks again! I'll keep y'all posted so I can see what other options are available.

For everyone else...this will be the ONLY time since Marauderville to see a wide variety of modded N/As (my keys are your keys) and ALL 3 of the S/C cars in one place....

Gee, Todd - I dunno. I called Gary and he was all like, "Just show up Dude." And I was like, "Huh? Don't I need an appointment?" And he was like, "Nah, just get here early and get in line with all the other Marauders." And I was like, "Whoa..."

Agent M79

The way I understand what Gary said is substantially similar.

Apparently Jerry has different programming parameters to load based on the model of car and it is easier for Jerry to group the cars together by model. It'll be up to Jerry which models go in which order.

I am guessing since we are tentatively starting at 10am that the MMs are in the first group.

TAF
11-04-2003, 09:22 AM
They are grouping all the Marauders together, and I requested that they start us at 10:00am (after our breakfast). They will start at 8:00am so there will be cars ahead of us. We just need to have several BIG black, blue, silver and red Marauders show up...in "force" and let them know what they're messin with :D

I just want us to start as close to 10:00am as possible so folks needing to get back out of town that afternoon, can. But, be sure you call Gary again...'cause it concerns me that he thinks there is only 4-5 coming and my current count is at 6-8.

He says, "Call me when it's time for the wheels." and if that is all that he does, $3. COD. And that's wash only. You are on your own for tire dressing and wax. If he does any more than that... the prices go up and the boy demands top dollar for top work... just don't ask him about "Daddy Tax".

We haven't set the time yet...I'm still trying to get a headcount. I'd guess 7PM as I have to play car service with Marty from the airport.

Pappadeux is 1 exit south (I-75 at Windy Hill Road...the first exit outside "the Perimeter" I-285) of the exit for Cracker Barrel and the hotel (I-75 and Delk Road).

From JAX (Hey...I'll be there Wed. & Thurs. this week) the exits above are on the other (NW) side of ATL. On a Friday afternoon...it can take up to 3 hours to go from I-75 coming from the Southeast side to the Northeast side where Pappadeaux is. Try to get through town before 3 PM.

Here is my post from ealier in this thread to answer logistics questions...

Awesome Bob, I sure am looking forward to seeing you and Jean again. You guys will help to balance out the fact that I will have to put up with Todd all weekend. Thankfully there will be some sanity in the area!

Wait a minute here, boys and girls, looks to me that we're getting spread out with our accomodations. How about we all regrouup at the LaQuinta next door to the Cracker Barrell, so, we can have TAF bring our breakfast to us?

Seriously, we have a day or two here, and I suggest we try to keep it conveinent. I talked with Todd a little while ago, and he assures me that this hotel is more central to the stuff we'll be geting into over the weekend. How about it, y'all.

BTW, Todd also asked me to start another thread on attendence, he needs some head counts for the weekend, so, I'll do get on that now.

So where do I wash my car and where do I plug in my leaf blower? What exactly are the nudity regs in Atlanta?

Agent, if you want to stop at my house before dinner, you are welcome to wash your car at my place. I am about 15 miles north of Pappadeaux off I-75 (my exit is 278).

I plan to be home mid afternoon on Friday. Let's just hope it's not too chilly.

Bob

Hey, thanks for the offer. I'll be traveling Friday night. Won't be in until about 12am.

Wonder if the ever so kind folks at Team Ford might have a wash pit? Hmmm?

Can someone give me an overview of the intensity of Law Enforcement between Charlotte and Atlanta on I85?

Where do I need to pay extra special attention?

Watch between Spartanburg & Greenville up by the BMW Plant. And just south of Greenville from exits 42 to 35....once you're in GA...it's smooth sailin' all the way to the A-T-L...

And if you're not going 85 on I-85 through Gwinnet County...you'll get run over.
