Didn't read the article, but I hear that the Ford Focus is the #1 vehicle people are trading in for

Depends on how they group and cluster the sales by all of the variants/models. Personally, I'd like to see the raw sales numbers for the top 100 or so to make up my own mind. Here's the Government List ....

Top Ten Clunker Buys
The most popular vehicles purchased under the Cash for Clunkers program.

Rank, Vehicle, Includes Hybrid, Combined City/Hwy mileage

1 Ford Focus, No Hybrid, 27-28 MPG

2 Toyota Corolla, No Hybrid, 25-30 MPG

3 Honda Civic, Yes Hybrid, 24-42 MPG

4 Toyota Prius, Yes Hybrid, 46 MPG

5 Toyota Camry, Yes Hybrid, 23-34 MPG

6 Ford Escape, Yes Hybrid, 20-32 MPG

7 Hyundai Elantra, No Hybrid, 26-28 MPG

8 Dodge Caliber, No Hybrid, 22-27 MPG

9 Honda Fit, No Hybrid, 29-31 MPG

10 Chevy Cobalt, No Hybrid, 25-30 MPG

Six of the Top 10 are Imports (60%) Two Fords (20%). One Chevy (10%). One Dodge (10%).

My brother in law was looking to take advantage of the CARS program. I tried to steer him to the Fusion Hybrid. He only lives a couple of blocks from work, and I wanted to see if he could go all week without using any gasoline.

There is an easier way, it is called walk to work.

Fusion FWD V6 just made the list of qualifiers, Ford had EPA retest the Fusions' mileage, the first time it fell short of the mileage requirement.
