View Full Version : Help me locate this noise (*video edition!*)

I'm hoping to keep this topic focused on solutions to my problem and less on my dealer rant. The short version is this- The dealer took off my dash in order to replace my blend door controller. When I got it back there is now a lot of engine noise heard from the driver's side. Had the dealer take apart dash again and they heard the hissing noise, but they can't find the problem. I believe it is the CAI/engine noise being heard in the cabin near the door seal.
Here are the videos I made:

If I need to take pictures or make another video to help anyone make a diagnosis, just tell me what area to focus in on and and I'll do it.

I will be honest I didn;t hear anything in the video! Maybe you have a vacume leak some where. My advice get a stethascope made for listneing to cars it has a long slender probe at the end of it to get into tight places.

Isn't there a muffler for the air ride compressor in the engine bay? Could be the hose is off and you can hear the hissing coming from the air ride system.

didnt see one when i relocated mine? :dunno:
i didnt really hear anything in the vids either.....
Yeah, I was afraid it would be too hard to distinguish through a video, I guess it's one of those "you have to hear it in person" type issues.
Anyway, it's far from a big deal, so I'll just take my time and figure it out one of these days.

If it is more on the left side of teh dash, one of the vacuum lines to the auto brake release (if you have a 311A0 if broken or off. If they didn't disconnect it when pulling the dash, they stretched it out (it's plastic) and its leaking. It also runs to the HVAC controller. The line runs from the firewall (above and to the right of the gas pedal) to the A/C controls and another line alos goes to the center console vac switch. If you have the hissing in park, the main vac line is the culprit. If it is louder when in drive the supply line to the parking brake bellows it damaged/off. The lines go thru the firewall in a rubber grommet. If that gromet is not pushed back into the firewal, you hear engine noise and fumes in the passenger compartment. Good luck..
