In Steele, AL, home to the record breaking MO Marauder!!
Camera took a dump, so no pics from me. Paul C was there and shot video, so I'll put up some later. Also a local club member took stills, and I'll snag them from him.
Weather was hot, no rain, lots of sun. Looks like there's rain outside now that it's dark, but no rain in Steele, and Mr. Norm's was getting ready for the final run of the day, which should be a new low ET.
Glenn came out, even ran me twice. He was having trouble with MT's (sidewalls were shot) that prevented him from getting in a truly representative run against me, but still he schooled me 12.682 to my 13.701. And he got off the throttle before the finish line. I also got spanked by an SRT Jeep Grand Cherokee, his 13.109 to my 13.708. My best time of the day was 13.607, and all the times were with absolutely horiible RT's. What can I say, today was the first time ever I ran down the track - never did it in the Marauder.
Speaking of which, it turns out the owner of the SRT Jeep works with the guy that bought my Marauder. He was supposed to come out today but didn't show. From what I was told, except for abnormal inner tire wear (no!) the car has been flawless.
The best times for Challengers (other than Mr. Norm's) was by a Birmingham club member with an R/T (performance exhaust and tuned), who ran a nice 13.4. Keep in mind, the best that Motor Trend ran IN AN SRT was 13.3! When I ran him I did my second worst time of the day, his 13.534 to my 13.915. It was hot as hell by then and I had already made two hotlaps, but certainly his car is fast considering it's a 5.7L. Also, he lowered the pressure in his street tires, I was running with normal tire pressures.
A guy with a brand new SS Camaro was there and ran once by himself, once against a 6-speed SRT Challenger. It was clear he was sandbagging the run (which was over 14 seconds) because he was shifting too low and you could see the nose dive between shifts. When he ran against the Challenger, he jumped out two car lengths, then let off, the Challenger beat him (IIRC the Camaro was 13.8 to the Challengers 13.6). The Camaro was also a 6-speed manual. It's pretty obvious the Camaro SS is a faster car than a Challenger SRT, but this guy would not run the Jeep SRT or the R/T. Best guess it's a high 12 second car stock, which is pretty impressive. We were told it weighs at least 300 pounds less than the SRT, too.
To be fair, whoever runs against me should load a dozen cinder blocks in their truck so the weight difference is accounted for. Skinny ass Glen and Jerry out there spanking my butt.
My proudest moment was schooling a Mustang GT early in the day, 13.633 to his 13.972. Later I made a horrible mistake and lined up against what I thought was the same car. Turned out to be a blown Mustang GT, which promptly toasted me 10.090 to an embarassing 13.923. To be honest, he was so damn far ahead I started watching him and let up, which slowed me down. He crossed the line at 134.40 MPH to my 102.21 MPH.
On the way up I-59, well, let's just say somebody supposedly wanted to give an impressive answer to the oft heard question, "How fast have you gone in it?" and that answer, rumor has it, is 157 MPH, and the car was still pulling, from what I understand. Not that I know who did that or anything... or who it was who took it to 135 on the way home....
Did I mention that two of the BMOC members are the deputy Chief of Police and his administrative assistant?
