Only the ones that explode on impact get in the press. That is what sells papers. IMHO.

The gas tank is above the rear axle (mostly) in front of the trunk well, and partially behind the rear seat.

That was a real life high speed rear ender. Hit hard enough to push the rear that far forward!

When you hear people say the tank should be in another spot, it makes you wonder just where, under the driver's seat?

Thing is, unlike what some would have you believe, these cars do not always explode or burn

We were always taught to work running on the upper half of the tank. It's rather embarassing when you have to frop out of pursuit because you're running out of gas. If you what photos of non-exploded vic's that are 4 feet shorter in the back, we always have some that go to the salvage auction. It seems drunks just fixate on the pretty flasshing lights and drive right into them.....CV's (and all panthers) can take some hard hits in the back and not (always)blow up. In a lot of the cases it has turned out to be something in the trunk that puched thru the trunk floor and then the tank. Word to the wise, leave those 4-way lug wrenches and floor jacks at home....
