I have pondered the idea of tinting headlamps and even perhaps side marker lamps as far back as we discovered how easy it was to do our tail lamps....

I need volunteers to go in on material...

CRUZTAKER

I wasn't really considering the side marker lamps...
If we are going to do the fronts, may as well do the sides.
That kinda doubles our needs. :o

How about Mark and I get this project done and post our results.
It appears as though we'll need 6' each.

Two of us could split a 15' roll or four of us a 30' roll.
The 30' roll is $170 before shipping but far more cost effective.

Looks as though we have three thus far.
I want to do this before Indy...so...if we cant find a fourth willing to spring for what should be less than $50 it's just Mark and I.

I'll give it a week and and I am ordering something.

You ok with that Mark?

BTW: 9999TH POST BOOYA!

This company does them by painting the lights instead of applying a film. You send them the lights, they do the tint, and send them back. Some lights they have ready to go in stock.

Check this out:

Of the three levels of dark this supplier offered, this is the lightest at 7%, and simply named 'TINT'.

It's 7% tint LOL!! Grasp the concept of light blocking measurements!

If you have window tint, and I bet you do, even the lowest grade is 50%.
Compound that to the factory 7-10% already in the glass and you have just blocked >57% light passage.

CAN YOU SEE OUT YOUR WINDOWS AT NIGHT!!!!????

And also, I must add, my low beams are 65w and high beams 100w.
The headlights were already a bit hot and received complaints over the years. Now they have sun glasses.:D

It's all good. I came off cross.

Those plastic covers are super dark. Like 35% or so.

This stuff is no where near like that.
It's light enough, that it is much like many of the European factory in lens tint shade.

I am not feeling any potential issue with the law.
I'll broaden that test to and fro MV-VII and let you know.:P

Barry, did you have to cut up the material to the headlights and corner lamps dimensions? How did you apply it to stick, and do you have any more pics?

Mark and I bought a bulk roll of material. Enough to do two cars and make two single mistakes.
We did his car yesterday, and decided to do the fogs as well.

I just cut a length of material long enough to wrap the lens, aprox. 18".
I was 12" wide material so there was more waste than that I would have prefered.

It is exactly like applying window tint, but far easier. A little bit of water, a squeegee, a few blades, and a few paper towels. The material itself is extremely thick and heavy, unlike window tint, making it far easier to work with.

I just align the bottom edge of the film with the bottom end of the lens, squeezee on the lens, and run a blade at an angle around the lens edge to get a clean straight cut. Wipe off. Done.

I have it down to 30 minutes a car now. :D

It would appear as such...but what I have learned is that just that little bit of 'too much water' causes issues.

Both of us ended up with one headlight that has a couple bubbles.
These are the ones that show up later, over time.

Mine has not seen sun nor heat yet, so I have no idea if they will evaporate.

We''ll see over time.

Yeah, they stressed the "too much water" in all 3 videos and the need to use their special misting distilled water sprayer to do the job. Very fine mist with no droplets or drips. They always make it look SO EASY on those videos. ;)
