After a military ceremony on July 17th, at Calverton National Cemetery on Long Island (near where Krytin lives), my Father and Mother were buried together and he received his columbarium niche cover last week. He passed away on January 17, 2009 and my Mother passed on December 30, 2007 -- they were both cremated. Just thought I'd share, I usually don't get this personal...

Uncle Sam has provided a great service for my parents.

Any veteran in my book is a true hero. Losing your folks is a hard thing, but their memories will live on through you.

Thanks for sharing.

Yes. thanks for sharing.
No one dies who is remembered!

Not only do I live out near there but I work just across the street from Calverton National Cemetary.

If you ever come to pay your respects please let me know and we can go for a few beers/diner.

I was out there for the memorial service, but only for a few days (due to my work schedule) -- I should have contacted you, but things were indeed hectic.

Thanks to all for the sentiments...

Nice to know your folks are together again. As CBT said....."The greatest generation." God Bless them and those who are left to honor their memories.

Interesting! Learn something new every day! I am familiar with the various memorials offered to veterans since I am now in the business as a "semi-retired" dude. But I have never seen or known that was an option. :o

If and when the occasion arises now, at least I will know they exist. And I will have to look into acquiring these for customers who need and/or want them! Thanks! ;)

My father is buried in the National Cemetery on Cape Cod. My mother will also be buried there with him. Flat stone, flush to the ground on a lovely sloping hill, all at no charge to the family. They have an automated system that does Taps. He was very proud of his country and to him, his Service to our country was just as important. The services are precisely timed because of how many they have on a daily basis and if you're late, you have to wait.
