I am now unemployed. As of 9/11. What a day to get laid off huh? So today I am calling unemployment, calling for health insurance (have to have in mass), and then rolling my pennies! After that I will be adjusting my resume and tomorrow the search will begin. I have never had this happen before and am kind of nervous about it! I have just rolled from one job to another never having to search because the job offers came to me, but now I have to do the searching! I have never taken unemployment before and if I am unemployed for too long I might go insane! Got to work! haha. The mini vacation here might be nice though!

Trying to keep a positive attitude, because a negative one just makes things worse in a time like this!

Thank God for great family, great friends, and a great girl who are all standing by me and being there for me!

Sorry to hear about your layoff.

Sometimes things happen for a reason. When I got "resource balanced" in the late '90's it was for the best. I didn't like my job. The new one I got 10 days later is really really good and I'm still doing it today.

I am really sorry to hear about this as I have been there 5 times, mostly when the economy tanked in the 80's. It can be heart wrenching but you have a good support system sounds like. I am the same way, have to keep busy and too much free time drives me up. Only advice I can give is something you know, don't give up as every time I was about to, a job came along.

Ah you'll be all set Tom.

You'll find out you won't be able to collect unemployment until a week from the date you were laid off.

Good luck!

I'm sorry to hear you lost your job, I know its easier said than done, but please stay focused and positive through your journey. Worrying and stress is like a rocking chair, you go back and forth and end up going no where.

Sorry to hear this TJ, best of luck finding a new, better job -- I am sure it will come, sometimes you just gotta take one step back in order to take two steps forward.

Thanks everyone... I am keeping a positive attitude and like fastblackmerc said, he hated his job and another better one came along and that is what I am hoping for! I got my EMT cert and have quite the resume for a 26 year old so I hope I will find a better job doing something I enjoy soon!

This is how I did it: No sleep and violent diareah for the first 3-5 weeks, weeks 5-7 - I painted every damn thing I could around the house because I had extra paint stored, weeks 8-10 - severe laziness set in, became quite the depressed mope. Then back to work.

Good luck! BTW Us experienced ones call it funemployment, don't quite know why, but its catchy.

So sorry to hear this Tom! I'm sure you realize you are not alone. Believe me, this won't be forever. Been there, done that myself. There is life on the other side of unemployment...... but find a way to enjoy this interlude.;) Bob had some good ideas!:D
