Anyone ever notice the overwhelming attraction a shiny black Marauder has in regards to bird poop?
Yesterday afternoon, my nice clean Marauder was nailed by what must have been a very large, burrito injesting pidgeon.
Hit dead center of the hood and sprayed all over the windsheild!....:mad2:
I stopped at a parking lot and attempted to clean most of the mess off with napkins...but it was too much.
I didn't want to risk getting the bird flu epidemic.
Last night on my way home from Frederick, Md. it rained like a mutha'...so all is well!

It reminded me of this great Superbowl commercial....anyone remember this one??

I think it was 1997 Superbowl...I saw a glimpse of the Packers at the end of the Youtube video.

I've had this. Once, after a 6 hour detail including both waxing and polishing, I carefully backed it into my normal spot and went inside to shower and change so I could drive to the next city over in my nice shiny MM. When I get back to the car, it looks like someone threw a milkshake over the hood and roof of the vehicle :mad2: Upon close inspection, there were small flakes of black in the white, confirming that a squadron of robins tried to go Dresden on my vehicle. There was something about the chemical reaction between the bird droppings and the wax/polish that allowed the droppings to really stick, requiring two touchless car washes to get the crap off.

I did some searching on the topic a year or two back, as it was staggeringly unusual for that much crap to be directly on my car and not a drop on the surrounding asphalt. As no one wants to invest funding on something this unimportant, nothing close to scientific has been done on the topic, but I've heard three hypotheses about why this happens.

1) Birds scared/attacking/defending against their reflection. They could be having the poop scared out of them. They might be trying to mark their territory while they thing another bird is watching. And least likely, they could be trying to poop directly on the transgressor. I've thought about spitting on someone I didn't like, but not going that far..

2) Birds might find a clean and shiny/reflective car to look like water, and due to some instinct that supposably inclines them to leave their droppings in water, they do so on the artificial mirage. People have mentioned seeing birds poop in puddles and bird baths; I suppose it's plausible. http://www.birdwatchersgeneralstore.c om/gracklepoop.htm

3) Last, birds, depending on species, age, and time of the season, might be attracted to specific colors, usually reds, reminding them of berries. So they are attracted over, find no berries, and just happen to do their business before they leave. http://malaysia.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070526102423AAg4m0 O

Sorry for the low-quality sources cited, but their isn't alot of research into this yet. These are the best ideas I've come across. However, I finally found a solution to combat all of these bird tactics:

Park in a garage.

My worse incident was when I was spending a full day washing and waxing my MM. I had washed it, and when I got around to waxing it, I started with the front, and then went on to the back. But before I got to finish, I noticed something on the front hood...:mad2:...you guessed it, they got me even before I was finished with the back. Because of this I have no love for birds of any kind, Thus I eat chicken wings with a vengeance. You know what, I think chicken legs are on the menu for dinner tonight.

Birds like the silver ones as well. I always got birds crapping on my car. I had a nest under the tree that was right over the spot that I would park my car under during the day. It always pissed me off that they would do that.

The Blue MM does a pretty good job of attracting the attention of birds too. :o

The Dirty Bird sounds alot like "Cliff" from CHEERS..... uh John Ratzenberger, I think.

Was from the 1996 0r 1997 Superbowl ...
