I am looking to buy a set of winter tires but I need advice/help.

Where/How would I order a set of 16in steelies? Is there an order number or should any junk yard vic steelie work?

Also what size of tire should I run with a 16in steelie so that my Traction Control does not explode? I am using stock gears.

Thanks in advance, and I used the search option but did not get much aside from old posts selling tires.

Thanks
Eric

I really like WinterForce M+S tires, they also have good dry traction. You'll need 2003 and up Crown Vic wheels with open end lug nuts.

Standard front size is 215/65-16 and rear is 225/70-16 and no T/C issues.

I opted for big boy tires 235/70-16 (front) and 255/70-16 (rear)

You can also check www.tirerack.com (http://www.tirerack.com) as they offer winter wheel/tire combos to chose from.

I'm running 235-55-17 Blizzak LM-22 - They are V rated. This is pretty close in size for the stock tires. You'd probably need bigger tires for the rear. I have an 03 with no traction control and can get away with 4 of the same.

If you go with 2006+ you can get 17" steelies - that fit. $132 at the dealer.
People sell them on ebay etc..

I went with 17 inch and
Michelin X-Ice
Rear 235/65/17 - 29
Front 215/60/17 – 27.2

The steelies where standard for CV, MGM and Town Cars

+1 on the Winterforce M+S tires.

They are deep snow rated and my Marauder went fine in some pretty bad New England storms last winter. I run them on some 16" Steelies that I bought at the junkyard for $35ea.

Make sure you get ones for 2003+ Crown Vic or Grand Marquis. Earlier panthers had a different backspacing for a different brake setup. You don't need open lug nuts, but the stock ones may not work with the extra stud that sticks out from the thinner wheel. If you get the stock kind with the ring around it you can run the police style center caps.

Does anyone know a vendor or an order number for the steelie rims? I am having a very hard time locating them on the web - all the steelies I see are like 150 a piece and have a chrome center housing the lug nuts.

I do not want to drop the money on the wrong stuff. I am going to hit the junk yards I hope

PM Joe Walsh, I purchased a set of 4 from him a few years back, he might be able to still get a hold of some.
