The grey on grey is an "aggresive driving enforcement" vehicle, the other is both traffic enforcement and a community relations car.

No 4 door version Challenger, my friend. Just 2 doors. Remember when state police ran Mustangs and Javelins on the interstates? This is kinda like that. Just for pursuit and writing of the tickets. They'd call in for a CVPI or a Tahoe or a Charger for transport if need be.

Two of the Challenger owners in the Birmingham Mopar Owner's Club are command officers in the Birmingham Police Department, one is Deputy Police Chief and the other is his administrative assistant. Both are huge gear heads. I've been teasing them about getting a Challenger for their fleet, looks like now they have a precedent for putting in for a couple in the budget.

There is no such thing as a two door police car. That would be called a police department toy at taxpayers expense. Having to call for a separate vehicle for prisoner transport is a double waste of tax dollars.

Yeah, I know they are out there but if you cant easily throw a dirtbag into the back seat they dont need to be police cars.

I used to live down there and remember the Javelin Trooper cars. Our Trooper was quite heavy and had a problem getting in and out of his car. I don't know what they did in a transport situation as he was the only trooper for that county as I remember.

Those look awesome, I hope those are not V6's though. The challenger is the best looking 2 door car out there right now as far as I am concerned.

Both are R/T's with 5.7L V8 engines.

1. . 1970s Plymouth Fury III (http://images21.fotki.com/v758/free/669c7/4/42477/2754558/nynewwind09-vi.jpg). Okay. Years and years of watching "The Dukes of Hazzard" have forever imprinted the 1970s Fury on my brain as the ne plus ultra of police cars. And I guarantee you that this is the first time that "Dukes of Hazzard" and "ne plus ultra" have ever been used in the same paragraph here at MArooned...

2. 1992+ Ford Crown Victoria (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/ab/LincCrownVic.jpg). The current incarnation of the 'Vic, the very last of the full-size cars available to the general motoring public, this is probably the best known cop car on the road today.

3. 1991-1996 Chevrolet Caprice (http://www.starsky-iom.com/replicar/images/americana%208-07-07%20003.jpg). How popular was the last model of the Chevrolet Caprice? So popular that police departments were sending them out to be rehabbed rather than trade them in on a Ford. And that's with the design flaw of the door-mounted seatbelt!

4. 1987 Buick Gran National (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/07/1987_Buick_Grand_National.jpg) . Yes, the Connecticut State Police used the Gran National as part of their unmarked fleet. BADASS.

5. 1974 Dodge Monaco (http://joliet-il-restaurants.com/images/blues-mobile-replica.jpg). It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters, so it'll run good on regular gas.

6. 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4e/1955_Chevrolet_police_car.jpg) . This is a classic in anyone's book. In police car form, it's almost too good to chase after the baddies...

7. 2009 Dodge Charger (http://www.ridelust.com/wp-content/uploads/dodge_charger_police_recall.jp g). Yeah. it's got a Hemi. Yeah, that Hemi's got 370+ horsepower. You can run from it, you'll just lose. And pad your ticket... The new Charger police car has the mortal lock on the "badass" look today.

8. 1984 Chevrolet Caprice (http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeopzls/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/1717original.jpg). This is a personal favorite, as it was the last MSP car to grace our driveway before my dad retired. Hey, I'm a sentimental guy when it comes to my cars...

9. 1988 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 (http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1088/606185972_e79c06c3f6.jpg?v=119 1736071). The MA State Police used these as their interceptor vehicles in the late '80s/early 1990s, and it seemed to be a natural fit for the job. The 'Stang shown was an actual CA Highway Patrol car.

10. 1973 XB GT Ford Falcon (http://archive.meguiarsonline.com/gallery/data/500/25866001madmax_car.jpg). Oh hell yes. Mad Max's cruiser gets an honorable mention on the list.

My neighbor was a CSP when I lived in Hartford. My dad remembers him having a GN. I was 8 at the time, i had no idea what a GN was. :o

I saw both of these on saturday after 3PM heading south on I-95 past Linton Blvd. The dark grey one was right behind the green and white one in the fast lane.

It is not all ways the speed and power of the vehicle, it in some cases is the experience and determination of the pursuing officer during his adrenaline rush that he gets into during a pursuit. I personally had about a 99% catch rate while driving a Police Wagon (Van) while pursuing lighter and faster vehicles (Mustang 5.0's Etc.) in Philadelphia. Their driving experience and errors got them caught in urban areas, now open highways were a different story. The adrenaline rush is what gets alot of officers in trouble....like the Rodney King syndrome.

In the early 80's Pennsylvania State Police were running 6.6 Trans Am's in the Pittsburgh area on the turnpike. Ask me how I Know.......Lol

The 1960's Ford Custom with the 428 police Intercepter engine.
I know because my Dad had bought a few of them from the auctions. Also used in PA and NY as well as MD and in some early Dirty Hary movies you can see them in the LA police department the detectives used them.

One bad ass car and engine that was for sure. Put one of the engine's in a 1965 Ford Dump truck after rebuilding it and it use to pull the front wheels off the ground with the plow on it in granny gear.

Unlike most city and county municipalities (spel chek) They must be running in the black and have extra monies to play with(hard to believe in this recession). You could have bought 3 to 4 crown vics for what they paid for those big boy toys. I will admit I do like the grey one best. But it is still a waste of tax payer dollars. FWIW
