On the way home from Hersheypark in PA. I hear this noise a constant "womp womp womp womp womp." The faster the louder sounds like it is on the driver side. Also a ton of vibration in the steering wheel i am thinking the vibration is from the front tires being out of balance but the womp sound is coming from the rear...Think it could be a bent wheel. but i dont know. also how do you know if you have a bad or bent rear axle? Any help suggestions even "it might be..." are welcomed....
If your not mechanically inclined get the car looked at buy the dealer before more damage is done. If you know what your doing you would have asked the question I'm not trying to insult you, but keep you from getting hurt or causing more damage to the car. I would cheak all the lug nuts are tight, lift the car off the ground spin the wheels to see if the rims are bent. cheak the driveshaft and u-joints for damage.

Sure does sound like mine did when the axle went south. A couple things you could check is: look for any fluid leakage around the outer seals or you can jack it up and see if you have any movement up and down / side to side with the rear tires like mine had.

It's the rear end most likely. You'll have to spend $400 to fix it at a shop if you are lucky.
Good luck and I hope it isn't too bad.

Had this the entire time at Indy and on the way home. I was suspecting my rear was the culprit. It would only do it under power. I thought it was a harmonic vibration of the engine.

Make sure you bring the lube for when they shove labor charges right up your
If the noise just "happend" I doubt its a bent rim, unless you hit a huge HUGE ass pothole, or ran over a deer or a child...
If its coming from the front... Check to see that you didnt loose a lead wheel weight...
From the rear? Could be your axles...

It is very true that most dealerships have a higher shop labor rate but for the most part everyone sells the job for the same amount of time using ether Alldata or Chilton time. Don't get me wrong there are very good independent shops but when they can't figure it out after selling you all the parts and labor with no accountability what do they say. Your going to have to take this the dealership because we have access to more diagnostic info and we have all the special tools. Wouldn't have been cheaper to just take it to the dealer in the first place? Also if you have a good reputation with you dealership when push comes to shove I have seen my service manager right off some very large jobs for people just because they were loyal customer. Most dealerships are fighting hard to gain the trust of new customers and keep old customers coming back

Could be an E-brake shoe.

Could be, but doubtful. When my e brake shoe let go, it sounded like the whole bottom of the car was about to come undone. Metal on metal, vibration, grinding, etc. Solved the problem by removing the whole thing permanently.

Don't let these guys scare the poop out of you, it could be as simple as a tire with a shifted belt.

That was my first thought....TIRE Problem!
Possibly a bulge in the tire.
My wife complained that her car was making the same noise "all of a sudden".
I thought that she was overreacting until I drove her car to test it. Yep, a definite speed related thumping.
I checked the tires for proper inflation and then checked the tread for rocks, screws and damage.
...There was a big bulge on the edge of the tread where it met the sidewall.
It looked like the tire was blowing a "bubble gum" bubble.
Run your hand around the circumference of each tire's tread to check.

"Shifted Belt"......now what is that and how can it happen???:rolleyes:
I'd buy the bulge on a tire or tread separation but shifted belt???:shake:
Pull the fill plug on the pumpkin and look at the magnet.....if it's clean (no bright metal flakes) you probably don't have axle and bearing problems!!:bandit:

I've had the violent chunching of an E-brake shoe as well, I thought one of my calipers came off and chewed up the wheel the noise was so bad! But I've also had an annoying thumping noise too. I think its due from lack of use, I very seldom use my E-brake, one day I used it when painting my calipers, and afterwards it started making the annoying thumping sound.
