View Full Version : MM vs 03 740il & 98 GS400
lost to my buddies BMW in the rematch this morning.also lost to an impressive 98 lexus 400 he beat the crap out of me by a car and a half.he told me it ran low 14s.
That's interesting,
I wonder how much faster a 740il is than a 500 series. I ran the wheels off of that and an AMG Mercedes the other day. Their dull, blank look of shock said it all..................
was the AMG an S class or smaller.the BMW has 325hp & 330tq.i'm suppose to race a 03 E500 MB tonight it also has 302hp &339tq but it may heavier than the MM i'll let you know what happens. if i get beat again i'll be inclined to do some mods.

Cutt, You were at a great disadvantage against the Lexus; It weights less then 3700 lbs, has a 5 sp-auto and variable valve timing the hp is about the same but the torque peaks at 4000 RPM. I think it will take some mods. to smoke him. Let me know if you ever do, my oldest boy is a mechanic at Lexus, It will be fun to tell him a MM. smoked a GS400. Never give up !!! :D
The AMG was a C class, for what that's worth. Don't know whats under the hood of those. I can tell you he was shocked at the 50mph pullout from the Marauder. The BMW never stood a chance, that was from a standing start, he pulled away initially but never got more than 1/2 to 3/4 car length ahead. Then at about 40mph the 4.6 decided it had enough of that ugly import and proceeded to stomp the life from it's carcass.

Well my car has 349hp unde the hood and a little bit more torque than Marauder. Im really wondering if this C-class was racing with you, because i basicly i can beat the **i* out of Gs4. Stock c32 is capable of running in low 13's 1/4 mile bone stock, and 4.9 0-60 and thats a MB info.
I would be really interested in your comments. Thank you.

I'm wondering if you're bone stock, and how are you launching the MM?

Best way to launch is let it do the work in D (with OD off), and all options off. The climate control system will kick off under full throttle, but it takes it a second, a second you don't have!
I found out when I try to race her by manually shifting, I get to excited with the 6000 revs and shift too late! :D

Nice race....Yes the GS400 is a very quick car but theres alot of new cars comming out faster than us ( big bodys) meaning your car and mine. I have to admit the new MM is a very sharp looking car and I would'nt sleep on one thats for sure. ;)
Ok all here are "just the facts ma'am":
The AMG/MB WAS trying to beat me. We took off from a 35mph roll down a stretch of a local parkway (why do we drive on a PARKway and park in a DRIVEway?). Yes it has more HP and less weight but the MM at 45-55mph is a full-tilt boogie,fire-breathing beast with very long legs. I got him by a solid 3-4 lengths.
The BMW never stood a chance, he had me for 200 feet and then did not have the midrange available to carry through. He was cooked in under a 1/4 mile.
"End of ride folks, please exit to your right and remember your belongings, thanks for playing"
The only thing not normal in my MM (yeah, OTHER than the driver) is the fact that I am lucky enough to live near a place with CAM2 100 and 110 unleaded on tap!! My baby gets 1/2 100 and 1/2 93 and I might have Dennis Reinhardt incorporate this in the program when I order the chip. Other than that it is all my driving experience and skill ac***ulated over the years (sigh,41 now). When I was MUCH younger I drove for a company that provided armored limo services for big corporate heads and they paid/required us to attend schools for driving control and evasion tactics/skills at Barber and Bondurant and full employement was contigent on successful completion.

gja;
It's been said elsewhere here, that 30-90 mph is where this car really shines. I think it would take a lot of car to beat her in that range. Standing starts, unfortunately, is where improvement is needed, 1/2 a car length is a lot to catch up too.
cutt;
How are you launching her, standing start?
turn the o/d off then pump the brakes once or twice then foot stall to 2200 rpms and stomp it.i would tell you put it 1 but shifting on time takes practice, but has better results.i can get rubber going to second.

Yes the GS400 is a low 14 sec car. my best STOCK 1/4 was 14.3.:D
When shifting manually there is a delay in line pressure, it's best to leave it in D.

C32 AMG
Weight: 3540lb.
Horsepower: 349 hp
Torque: 332 ft-lbs.
MM
Weight: 4165 lbs.
Horsepower: 302 hp
Torque: 318 ft-lbs.
Im not sure that 1/2 93 + 1/2 100 will even cover the 600+ lb. weight difference between the cars. Even in this situation C32 supposed to beat MM. Good driver is a good driver, but winning by 3-4 car lenghts IMO impossible. I don't want to say that it never happend, but i think the C32 wasn't racing. I used to have a E430, thats pretty much an opponent for a GS400. A little bit slower, but still in the same category. Its just so much slower than c32. just my $0.02.

I am with you on the C32 the MM would need a blower or NOS to beat it even from a roll it still could not beat that AMG. I ran a C32 in the 1/4 I ran a 13.9 @100 and the C32 ran a 13.5 @103mph he was STOCK. I also ran a MM in the 1/4 with my 20s on and beat him he ran a 14.7 to my 14.3 and he wasn't Stock he said he had flowmaster exhaust and intake. I'm not say that there not fast but it can't beat a C32 unless you get some type of force induction. :D
Well E43,
I don't know if the MB is offered with manual shift, but it is almost like he blew a shift. He was certainly trying and looked to be a little pissed-off at the result. I need to get to a dyno to benchmark my MM and see what is up with it. I swear its almost like I got the car that rolled off the line under the QA officers stare. I have none of the trim/engine/tranny foibles that others have found, weird..damn weird.
For the record, I never pointed to the gas as a possible source of advantage, just laying ALL the cards on the table.

...or he just wasn't trying all that hard... I'm guilty of that. People will try to play and I don't put it all the way down because I'm not in the mood...
On a side note... If you ever see a S600 pull up next to you, take a quick left. Got absolutely roasted by one a month or two ago...Ugh... By the time I saw the V12 badge it was way too late...

I won't take no left until 150mph!!!!;)
You know, the funny thing is folks who buy the S600 tend to be the ultra-rich kinda snob who have o idea their car is fast, all they know is it was the MOST expensive on in the lot and that's why they bought it. To show up Biffy and Skippy next door(ugggh, those people churn my stomach).
Now, if FOMOCO could only get their line to pop out cars with the same QA as Lexus or MB that would be REAL progress. Then they could be a WORLD beater. I wish American car companies could clean up their act in that sense, it's annoying to live in one of the most advanced and modern countries and have an industry that is still 40-50 years behind the curve.
By the way pusher, the most fun is trying to get someone to run my 9C1 caprice, they just won't believe I'm not some cop looking for a month-end ticket quota. I have more fun with that car!!!!

Whooped all of the cars listed above.
Even the 12 second AMG the owner of my side job owns. Don't know the details of his car, just know he talked about beating a Z06 and then I stomped him.
:)
Can't wait to put in the goodies laying on the garage floor.....
As the sig says, 11's here we come!

Agreed! Stock, the Marauder won't touch you. But what if I accept the same budget you took on, and I want to spend it on an American machine. That's my goal, and I'm sitting tight here until I see a way to get there that's sensible. K.B. has shown one way. Being in California, I have to be more subtle about the upgrades. Dennis' mods may be my answer. But my first thought is a stroker from SHM. It's all messing around in my head, and I'll sort it out later this year. Then, we'll see what develops.

Well, there's the goal: sub 4.5 seconds to 60mph. That's going to take some planning and careful thought. Time to go back to my buddies at SoCal SAAC, and see if they have ideas of how to build the MM for that goal. Sure hope Mr. Bittle will help out. How to pass smog here in SoCal will be the stumbling block. Maybe I should just go to K.B. and keep the car is Chicago with my relatives (fat chance!!).

Well It all depends on what you are willing to spend on a car! You bought your MM on your buget and I bought my GS400 on my buget! Any car can be made fast! I was pretty much just clearing up what the other guy was stating! I actually like the MM I'm just not an American Muscle Car guy! I bought my car for different reason then you might have bought yours on.;)

You're right. That's why all the car companies make a living because we all look for different things in our cars. Hate to think we'd all have to buy exactly the same car because of somekind of government control. It'd probably be something like the current flock of SUV's.
the car i raced was a 03 745Li.i had a rematch last night and gave my best race and lost by a car length.
rematch tonight with the GS400,03-745Li,and a supercharged harley truck.beat the lexus and the BMW lost to the harley truck.still bone stock.the GS400 has a K&N filter.

A guy in a late model 740 BMW passed me on the highway. Although he overtook me, he really had to work for it...... I could hear his engine winding out to make the speed to catch up to me after I took off.

Smitty, I like the way you think. I've got the "base" mods right now, gear, chip, stat and plugs, and the performance gain has been remarkable. RWHP 266.4 and RWTQ 285.0 My 0-60 came in at 6.03 seconds in 6/100th of a mile.
My goal, is to move the factory published performance specs taken at the flywheel, to the rear wheels, without getting inside the motor or tranny. That will be one quick MM, yes?
smith5365
01-08-2003, 12:17 PM
Yep! It's still HP/LB and don't break the rear wheels loose.
