Well, “barn finds” do happen! Although, in my case, it was a “field find.”

I came across this ‘66 Ford Fairlane recently.

The Fairlane was picked up on Derrick Smith’s (404-392-0612 - Cartersville, Georgia) flatbed wrecker:

Derrick immediately got the Fairlane up on one of his lifts so that we could get a look at what we were dealing with:

The car was found to be a very, very good shape.

The present plan for the Fairlane is to do a full Heidt’s suspension under the car so that we can slam it down and make it a ProStreet style car.

We are also looking at some other details items to dress the car up with stuff from Ring Brothers.

Disassembly of the Fairlane has already begun. As you can see, Derrick will be detailing this car to a very high level. Here is where things stand as of now:

We are looking at power and transmission options for this car. We will likely use a fuel injected 302 with a GT40 intake, backed up with an AOD transmission built by Mark Wells, who is also in Cartersvile, Georgia.

Needless to say, under the hood the motor will detailed to the same degree as the rest of this build.

The MO Scairlane will be killer when it is done!!!

I will keep you all posted as it comes along. Stay tuned!!!

Nice local find Marty. You guys do not waste any time. You need to join the Fairlane Club of America. The club has many parts available for Fairlanes and are a great resource of restoration information.

(Of course, the fact that I founded and started the club has nothing to do with it.)

Good luck on the restoration and modification.

Can't wait to see the finished product. Maybe the Scare-lane will be done by next Halloween? ;)

Nice find. I would however opt for a 351W/stroked to at least 400ci. Just a suggestion :)

Fo sho

and if you can deal with the spark pulgs, GT40P heads offer abit more flow than GT40 heads.

GT-40P heads limit your header choice unless custom is in order.

+1 on that^^^^^!

Nice work Marty!

I used to own a '65 Fairlane.
I also have a '68 302 w/the 4V heads loaded w/vintage go fast parts from the 70's - it's yours if you want it but if that car had the original 289 in it you may have a valuable vintage block there!!

Good luck - can't wait to see the finished car!

Nice find Marty!
That will be a super sweet Resto-Mod project.

My 2 cents;
Built 351W bored & stroked out to 427 cubes*....still looks like a small block...but it's packing a whole lot of cubes!

I love how, even though it was a 289 small block, Ford still put a stout 9" rear behind it!.....:bows:

BTW: AFR 225 heads FTW!

*Heck, I'd like to put one of these engines in my Marauder and then hang old school 427 badges on the front fenders like this;

That car must not have been in the weeds too long because the floor pans look pretty good. Those are great cars, Mario won Daytona in one too! I vote a nice hotrod 289, light in weight and plenty of power.

Sweet find Marty. You know what that car would have looked like from a field up here... :puke: Can't wait to see the finished product.

Im sure you will be tempted to paint it shiny red or black but just like that Nova you showed before, the original green metallic will look great on that car.

Current the plan is for bright white with flat black accents.

In a storage building. :(

We are slowly getting things off the list, but I now know why speed shop operators never have cars of their own!

I found a non fastback (which I like better) 68 unmolested about the same color, 302 pretty good non running shape but the guy wants too much as is. So I will pass on it.
