Is there any advantage to running 100 Octaine if you don't have a specific tune for that grade?

I have a place close to where I work, that I can fill ($8.00 per gallon)up today for SSHS9.......

Opinions please:toast::burnout:

100 Octane if not specific tune for it and running to me is just being smart and a ins policy for no detonation.

Not if you currently have a safe tune for your set up.

It can't hurt, but it will not necessarily help.

All higher octane gasoline does is retard ignition of the fuel/air mixture (I am sure we all know that anyway). If your car doesnt have a history of pinging (preignition) you probably dont need it. I dont know if higher octane would mess with your oxygen sensor or other parts of your emission system though.

It will in some case's give you a little more pep, it also in most cars will make your motor run a little smoother, it will clean your entire fuel system better than 93 oct and will not break down as quickly. Is it worth the price? Most likely not.

Wrong, wrong, and wrong. Adding higher octane fuel will make you go SLOWER. You need to adjust the timing to compensate, meaning you need what is commonly referred to as a "race tune."

Yup! You can advance timing and pull fuel!

I just filled up my gas can with sunco 104 race gas getting ready to run tonight. To the first page of timeslips here I come.

Make sure it's unleaded. The gas at the track here in Orlando is leaded 100octane.

We got 104 unleaded in these parts.

Guys Thanks for your input. Based on what I have seen here and learned on my own, I think I'm just going to run 93:burnout:

The Banshee runs good on it anyways. Was just lookin for a lil advantage:D

Thanks again all:banana2:

It's funny, the 100 Sunoco is $7.99 and the 110 Haffners is $7.99... The 110 nozzle won't fit in the gas tank fill port of your car, you have to hold it very carefully or put it in a gas can first! I use it when I don't want to pull timing for the N2O...

In my car it gives it more power and thats useing my street tune. Bottom line is it works differently in different cars dependant on the tune you have.

So you're both right! :D You already have agressive timing, A/F then.

Well I just got a retune on the dyno and I have a street tune and a race tune. With a few more degree of timing and to make it safe I use 104. 11 second video will be up lata. :burnout:

I have a safe 93 oct tune by Scott Beer & I could add a little more timeing to my 93 0ct tune but I don't wish to be on the edge. Let me make a correction on post #17. This is what I do, I most of the time put 3 gallons approx of 103 race fuel in a full tank of gas. It brings up the oct #'s makes the car run smoother and give's it a little more pep and a better margin of safety. It will bring the oct # up to around 95 oct. approx.

Higher octane gas is harder to ignite.

Unless you upload a tune that has more global spark you aren't getting anymore power. plain and simple.

If you are using oxygenated race fuel your O2's will pick this up (learn over time) and lean out automatically making more power - this is the *only* exception.

Stay away from 100LL, way to much lead in the fuel for your cats
