Just saw this on Autoblog and I thought I'd pass it along. If they do bring in the Falcon for police use, I will be VERY happy. :banana2:

why would they bring an australian car over now? they've said so many times, over and over, in the past that it would be to expensive to meet America's EPA and crash standards...

"We have heard the repeated requests from the law enforcement community to continue uninterrupted support of the law enforcement community," said Mark Fields, Ford's president of The Americas in a company announcement. "Ford is answering the call with the new Police Interceptor -- engineered and built in America."

Just because its called the police interceptor, doesn't mean its going to be on the panther platform... ford owns the name "police interceptor", they can slap that name on any vehicle they want...

built in america, thats a give away right there

I would love to see the evolution of the PI. If the technology comes from Australia, great. If it is built in the US even better. I dug around and found some interesting specs on the Falcon XR8 package. It has a N/A 32V 5.4 and makes 290 KW of power, which converts to 389 HP . That seems like a great number to start from and then add the mods :D. There is a 6 speed auto or manual option also. They even have an inline 6 turbo model that is not too shabby, about 362 HP. Now it does look nearly as good as the Marauder and it might not generate the same following as the Marauder has, but the potential for the RWD sedan to march forward is there.:banana2:

Never will happen,I am told it will be a Taurus. Probably not an EcoBoost, but a NA 3.7L that makes like 300 HP. Probably AWD. Not a chance it will be a Falcon from Australia.

DR could you explain why this will never happen?

Any time Ford drops a line such as the Marauder or CV they have to wait a min of three years to even consider placing it back in production, as we all have seen 2007 no reicarnation of the Marauder the 2010 CV is the end till at least 2004, but to be honest the era of the RWD is very bleak.

Maybe it is the end of the Panther but they will roll right into the new PI.

The new Ford Police Interceptor is being developed in conjunction with Ford’s Police Advisory Board, which provided input during the past 14 months on key vehicle attributes, such as safety, performance, durability, driver convenience and comfort. The new Police Interceptor will be offered without interruption when production of the Ford Crown Victoria ends in late 2011.

Ford plans to reveal the new model and provide full vehicle specifications in the first quarter of 2010 – in time for law enforcement agencies, police equipment manufacturers and upfitters to develop a transition plan from the Crown Victoria to the new product.

No way it'll happen with the falcon. They'd kill the SHO marketing.

Won't kill the SHO marketing if the vehicle is going to be purpose built for law enforcement, just as the new Chevy Caprice will be.

I read someplace the "new" Taurus/SHO is actually a transitional model that isnt going to be around too long. Its based on the Volvo architecture and Ford wants to develop their own design in house. It wont be the current Falcon either, but it may be something new (and something that will be the new Falcon too.)

Make my PI a Diesel!!!...oh, and 500 lb ft of torque, please (along with sequential twin turbochargers and direct injection). Also, I prefer a six speed automatic transmission (~.75 overdrive), all wheel drive, and a 4.11 ratio 9" Detroit Locker rear axle. It could happen :shake:.
