so will this 5.0 be considered a mod motor?

either way thats pretty sick getting almost the same hp with over 1 L less in displacement then the competition.

Yeah, that's what I'm wondering, too.

Given the investment Ford has made into modular motors, I'm guessing that's what it'll be.

I am pretty sure it is nothing like the architecture of the current mod V8's. It is a 4 valve DOHC aluminum block with 4 bolt mains and some pretty good bones. It looks more like the Duratech motors than our current DOHC's...

Wowsers 412hp. The camaros and chargers are going to need 500hp to keep up with the 400hp mustang.

This mod motor has nothing in common with any currenr mod motor nothing is interchangeable as this motor is a aussie base motor.

Whats really funny is, Motortrend voted the 2010 GT Mustang with the 4.6L top dog over the 2010 SS Camaro and 2009 R/T Challenger.

This 5.0L motor will leave no doubt IMHO...

and I bet the 5.0L GT will cost less than all others.

Am surprised that no one has mentioned, I think, that if FORD , produces another COBRA, what do you think that beauty will be ...factory that is?...
you can only droll.............come to think about it--that's why it is not mentioned--to be the new news after the GT ....in '12..........

True. But the LS series motors have just one cam and 2 valves. Compared to Fords modular motors. I have a 2005 GTO with the LS2 and it is quite impressive. And the LS motors take to moding very easily with out a power adder. Too bad the Camaro looks like ****. Would be way cool to have one of each! Anxious to see the two duke it out (being a 4th gen Camaro fan).

I work at Ford. The engineers for the ecoboost motors have been telling us for some time that the '11 Mustang would get a 5.0 cammer motor.

http://www.fordracingparts.com/crateengine/cammerengine.asp

I like the fact the '11 V6 can be had with all the GT suspension and such. With the 'dual' exhaust it will be very hard to tell them apart.

Its not the Cammer 5.0, nor is it anything like the 4.6 or 5.4 family currently in production. This new 5.0 has been nick named the "Coyote" engine and will feature electronic variable valve timing on a DOHC engine. I started hearing rumors of this engine being dropped in the Mustang over a year ago, and started saving my pocket change and reimbursement checks from the Fire Department so I can purchase a new 2011 Mustang GT. You guys may find be listing my Marauder for sale later this year to fund the purchase as well. :D

If Ford offers a Boss 302 Mustang version, I would be very tempted to go your same route. I was close to signing a deal on a full boat 1970 Boss 302 Mustang at the Ford Dealers when the salesmen wouldn't take a dime off the sales price. Due to my youthful spirit, I told the salesman to shove it. I have regretted that decision ever since. A Boss 302 would be a real temptation.

Imp, notice the lack of provisions for the chain cogs on the cam covers like our cars? This is because it uses a lower profile setup than the previous family of modulars. If you look at the new 3.7 315hp V6 in the pics from the auto show, you will notice its simularity to the 5.0 in the white Mustang in the pics. Basically the new 3.7 with two cylinders added will be the 5.0.

I fought with myself about buying a 2010 Mustang, but started seeing internet rumors about the 5.0 in 2011. I heard it was going to be a Boss model, then Bullitt, then GT. Anyway it comes, I'll take it. My big choice is going to be 6 speed manual or 6 speed auto. The 5R55 5 speed auto in the 05-10 Mustangs doesn't hold much power back, and in some cases the auto cars have been faster.

I turn 30 in 2011, and this will be my 30th birthday present to myself. Wether it comes early or late will depend on funds, and Job 1.

I'll keep my MM, 412HP is a large step backwards, and that's crank HP, not RWHP.

i imagine its something to do with the variable cam timing.

that looks like a real pita to work on!

Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT)

Glockafella
12-25-2009, 06:03 PM
Ford developed Ti-VCTto allow extremely precise, variable control of "valve overlap," or the window of time in which both the intake and exhaust valves in an engine are open at the same time. By adjusting overlap continuously, an engine can operate at optimum settings for peak fuel economy or peak power output as conditions demand. Ti-VCTalso facilitates an "internal EGR" effect, reducing NOx (a contributor to smog) and hydrocarbon emissions throughout the engine’s operating range.

I'll bet that engine is BIG money. Sure is beautiful to look at.

The V6 isn't 305 horsepower. 305 HP is a V8. I forget what the displacement is.

Bradley G would know.
