Because GM was trying to salvage Oldsmobile sales at that point. And as I recall they were using an Olds V8 in one of the Indy feeder series around that time.

And yes the Bravada had a 4.2L I6. Same I6 as the GMC Envoy and Chevy Trailblazer. Pretty good motor actually.

I'm actually a little surprised they don't have a Honda as a pace car as Honda is the engine supplier to Indy thru I think it's the 2012 season?
