View Full Version : Half way to a new Paint job...
Logan

Well, I'm about 1/2 way to a new paint job, should be in the shop next week for a full warrantied repaint. I've got spider crack welts on the roof, hood and trunk, so we're going for full job.
That being said, not being one to leave well enough alone and a fan of the two-tone harley f150 paint job, I'm pondering a two tone job to the marauder, with the silver being Silver Birch...
Here's a couple examples of my thoughts, never mind the horrible photochopping, I ain't no expert, but you get the idea...

I think not!

I would stick with a solid colour but add accent stripes. The two tone doesn't do it for except in the following case:

hmmmm,... I think that'll look good in person. Don't forget the black bumper inserts!

After working on the design a bit, I can see now why ford painted the front bumper cover on the Harley, it just doesn't quite work without doing the front cover...
The pictures don't do the thought justice, but it'd be something to see, that's for sure... A love it or hate it kinda thing.
I've seen it done to a 03 Cobra and it looked kick ass.

Logan,
You're hurting my eyes, big time !

Try the silver from the top of the bumpers down. That could be a maybe.

Whacked it but good...
What's bugging me is I've seen jack squat in terms of custom paint work on a marauder and I'm itching to do something...

How's about that funky orangish/red color by PPG that I've seen on a lot of Impala SS's? Personally, I think I'd go with a deep dark purple with a light metalic flake in the clear coat. Either that or PPG jet black with purple ghost flames.

My only problem with flames is they've been done to death.

And your guys thought I was nuts for joking about a vinyl top..:flamer:
Well Logan, I have been working on the Harley Davidson unauthorized Marauder for the last couple of months. I have the 100th Anniversary logo Wings on my truck lid. Also I have replaced the Round Mercury waterfall with a Harley Davidson Live to Ride Gas tank medallion. It’s a perfect fit. As for the color combinations, try a Harley Orange single strip down the center of the hood and use the Harley logo tape on the edges of the strip. You know, the same tape used on the F-150 HD. Don’t continue the color on the roof, but finish it on the trunk and stopping on the spoiler. Competition Orange was the color of choice from many venders including Ford. You may consider orange pin strips with a small Harley logo blending on the rear quarter panel.

Nice touch Merc....

I like the thought of that orange strip. I was actually debating on doing Harley orange pinstripes down the sides. They'd break into long, thin flames after the rear door... kinda like the early HD F150's.

Since everyone appears in a festive mood tonight, how about a standard black roof and a burnt orange body to acknowledge Halloween ???
This is an example of the color and tape used on the 2004 F-Series Super Duty HD Truck. This scheme is not what I had in mind, but offers some idea of the color combination. Notice: Look closely and you will see the Harley logo tape used to divide the two colors.

A "General Lee" 4X4 ?
Hey, put the Stars and Strips on the roof and call it the "General Grant" 4X4

Ha, Ha.
I like the way you think, merc.
It's fun to dream, eh ?
Delete the Stripes, put the Stars on the sides and call it the "General Sherman" 4X4.
You know, we could go on and on, don't you ?

Jeeze Louise...Between your paint ideas, Logan, and my Xmas kilt pic, these poor folks have had enough of Halloween, eh?
Last stupid Post: Ok, let’s pour gas on the truck bed and ignite it, then call it “The California Edition” 4x4. Not subject to recall, factory warranty 36 feet or 36 seconds.

Agreed.
It's been fun, merc.
You're a good sport.
Let's call it a night.
Logan's paint dilemma may have to be resolved by a higher committee.

Someone needs to photoshop up a Marauder like the Starsky & Hutch Torino to see what it looks like. :D

Two toning it below the bumber / belt line might look better.

That looks not bad... Not quite my style though.

...I'm also considering just dumping a crapload of either blue pearl or silver pearl into the clearcoat for a subtle color shift, and then just doing a nice set of Budnik Mercury 5's to round out "the look"...

I like Bowman9's pic, but people will then think its a mote carlo then. http://www.proteam-corvette.com/media/medart/shots/78.jpg When Logan said the silver and black this car came to mind.

I think that black/silver combo make it look even more like a squad car.

Logan,
How big are these "Spider" marks? I noticed today after getting my car cleaned...notice on the hood...among the few rock or chip marks there was this "crack" like web that started to com up...it is only a 1/4 in radius right now...first time I have noticed it....
Is this what happend to your car? How bad did it get?

Logan, a tutone paint scheme should follow natural body lines. If you study the body's natural style cues I'm sure you can figure something out that will work
You could also study what Ford suggests for the tutone Police cars to get some ideas

Marauder57, Yep that's it. 1/4 inch fish eye spider-webby cracks in the clear/base. I've got them over the majority of the car. Probably 20 or 30 in total.
As well as a clear coat that isn't anywhere near as thick or shiny as it should be.
I compared my paint on this car to my first car at FFW and the paint on my first car is 10 times better than this one...
