Thanks folks. It was Arleens VW Passat that we bought from her sister when she moved to Germany four years ago. The tow company (body shop) and I believe it is totaled. But, as stated above it did its job and saved my girls from major harm against a Jeep Cherokee. He tested out 1.5x above the legal limit for DWI (DUI). Bye bye commercial license for driving school bus. As I stated in another post here he is/or was a steady of a cousin and has been to our home for family events. Nice huh? With a speciality in DWI enforcement I only had to look at him in the station to know he was loaded. I thanked the investigating POs for taking care of my family and asked for a call later. They confirmed my diagnoisis a couple hours later when all was said and done. He was standing right there and heard the full conversation so he can not claim he was rail roaded because of my stature in the LEO community.
So, I guess we'll be in the market for a decent used economical car in the near future. Unless the Passat can be fixed, but I doubt it. I hated that car anyway. :D

Wow, thank God they're both ok..
As mentioned, wayyyy to many DUI accidents this weekend on the news, locally just the other night a wrong way fatal on the highway just outside of Boston, Jeep vs. MG roadster. Jeep driver was three times over the limit.

The Lord is always watching over us either way we see it. I'm glad everyone is ok, including the bozo that decided to get hammered and drive. That bozo could teach people and spread the word about the effects of DUI's and wrecks.

 Good lord, Ray. First it's the crazy neighbor's dog trying to eat Brittany, and I forget what happened, next. With all that craziness going on up there, + your nut-case politicans....dare I say Cuomo, it's time to think about coming to PA to live; although I can't promise better politicians. The bright side is, we don't tax your retirement income.
In any case, you guys are back on the prayer list, with a big thank you, this time.
Love from PA & smooches for the girls.:)

We are starting to talk about a replacement vehicle. Arleen is thinking of a Fusion. I'm thinking more along the lines of something with tracks and armor. A Stryker would do the trick nicely. Maybe a full size from AM General would work with a TOW missile launcher.

Stay away from an M60A3 or M1 Abrahams, not good in the snow or ice.

What are the monthly payments on a $1.42 Million vehicle? >>>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stryker
Maybe you could pick one up used. :D

Wow Ray! Glad everyone is ok! Geesh what an ordeal - at least the MM wasn't hurt. The upside: you get to get a better car.
Get a crown vic! - they *are* safe... (and easy for a 12 year old to repair lol)

Ok, if you remove the track shoes, but then you will be tearing up the pavement. Literally.

Waiting to hear back from our insurance company as to what he has told his, ref liasbility for the MVA. As of yesterday he had not reported it to them, imagine that  We are thinking a used Fusion with I4 engine. A Crown Vic or GM maybe a consideration, but with her education/employment plan for the next 2-3 years we need her to have something gets good mileage and running up the odie won't matter much. I know the local FLM dealer has a beautiful Lincoln LS on the lot with like 50K on it, so we may look at that. Anyone know what real world MPGs are on those with the V8?
SC Cheesehead
12-30-2009, 09:16 PM
Ray, IIRC, the LS mileage is about the same as a Marauder, maybe 1 or 2 mpg better.
Nice cars, though. I came real close to buying a used exec-driven LS instead of the DTR back in '04.

Thats what I was looking at when I bought the DTR. I just requested a quote from them. 57k on it, completely loaded. 3700# so I know she'll be safe in it.
