sorry about the oversized blurry picture, I tried editing it down but it would not let me remove the pic just the wording.

it's about the same size as one of those mini mag light flashlight bulbs. http://i49.tinypic.com/28ix1qp.jpg
it sits in that block and the wires are bent up and it's glued to the circuit board.

Maybe Radio Shack? Or some kind of really geeky electronic store of some kind like Frys ElectronicsI am just guessing. http://www.frys.com/ or http://www.radioshack.com/home/index.jsp?Camp=PPC:Google:Bran d:Exact

while your in there, you should do some custom colors.

Radio Shack has them. I replaced the one in the headlight switch, Had to solder longer leads on it.

cool, thanks, it's going to be fun reinstalling it to the board, that little block in that pic was glued onto the curcuit board, and it looks real delicate in there..... and how would you do custom colors, scrape the inside of the buttons? lol i'll pass

I know a member here who has an extra a/c control head with a bad vacuum leak. The front part is still good and should light up. Let me know.

They are called "kernel of wheat bulbs" You can use any 12v bulb that comes close and has leads off of it.

You can also replace them with LEDS, you must use a padding resistor as Leds usually need between 2-5 volts to operate, not 12v. But once you achieve this, it will never fail on you again. Find something close in size and I will send you an LED calculator, you simply input the current draw, voltage and it will calculate the resistor for your application. Radio shack has white LEDS in pairs for about 5 bucks and a pack of resistors are cheap. You simply replace the one lead with a small resistor and continue to install it.

ya thats a good Idea. especially the next eet of bulba I put in will probably be super glued, so Led's should work good. I just wonder if I should do all of them or just the ones that burnt out. also are these type of Led's dimable?

Well if you have it open, its best to replace all of them, yes they will dim with less voltage.

If I recall the resistor value is about 560 ohms I did the same thing with the Head light switch but the lumen output on an LED isn't enough and they are too dark, I ended up useing some other ford wrecker bulbs (you can't buy the ones with the plastic sockets) if it was me I would just replace them with the same wattage and size (and yes they do came in differn't wattages)

I think their called "Grain of Wheat" light bulbs. Do a internet search on this. At work we sometimes use the Chicago Miniature 7219 bulb which is rated at 12v (Mouser Electronics pn: 606-CM7219 @ .30 ea).
Some hobby shops also stock Grain of Wheat bulbs but not sure of their ratings.
You could dip them in a colored enamel to change the color...

With LEDs you have to aim where the light goes because it leaves the LED case in one direction, like a laser beam. A light bulb throws light in all directions, which works to distribute light evenly when you insert it into a plexiglas light panel.
