I put this wammy bar set up on my 2001 Gibson Les Paul Custom and it works great, but looks strange. When you look in the pictures it looks fine on the body, but the way the bridge sits on the strings isn't straight. I was thinking of putting washers in the screws to get it straight, but I don't think it the strings will be able to retract anymore.
I don't know what brand the wammy bar is and the box didn't come with instructions. No one at Guitar Center knows what to think.
Any thoughts?

Not sure what you're referring to as "not straight".
If it were me I'd put a stop tailpiece on it and be done with it.

It looks fine and, by your own admission, works fine.
Leave it.

Dom,give me a call and I'll give you the number and address to my luthier. He's at the corner of Addison and Damen and is the ONLY person I let work on my guitars,he set up that little Teisco you got from as well as a half dozen other guitars for me.

I believe there are suposed to be some heavy duty springs placed on the mounting screws under the bridge.
From the picture, it looks like you are only able to pull the whammy up causing the tone to raise. Is that correct? It should go both ways.
Just a thought.
Good luck!
It looks like you put part of a whammy bar onto the stock tailpiece studs. The pics are too blurry to tell. Any whammy needs springs (not on the bridge though) to counter the string tension.
There's only 2 "real" whammy's for a Les Paul - A Bigsby or a Vibrola. And I hope you aren't hacking a real Gibson...
IMO if you need a whammy, get a Stratocaster

Hence why I would just put a stop tailpiece in it.
There was a tremolo system in my flying v when I bought it. I never use it, took the arm off.
It's a custom shop guitar, has the dirty fingers humbuckers.

I said Gibson, the pic has a Gibson so yes it's a Gibson.
I'm not "hacking" it up since nothing new has been screwed or glued into it. It's my guitar and I'll do what I want with it.
I have a Strat, but recently I have really started disliking the sound of Strats. I will agree with you that strats have the best wammy bar system.
I just love the sound of the Gibson and want to get a wammy to work on it as well as a strat.
Thanks for the tips guys.
UncleLar, I can work on this thing, but I wasn't sure if just getting washers would do the trick.

So long as it's a Gibson and not a limited-production, custom shop guitar, who cares?

I'm looking for a mint Wurlitzer thin line hollow body twin pick up twin F hole electric guitar from around 1967 or 1968,with or without a whammy bar.I've been wanting one since they were new. These were made in italy for Wurlitzer and are NOT the later guitars made in Indiana for Wurlitzer and being reproduced today.

haha what does it matter man?
We both have rare cars and drive the piss outta them.
My Gibson has had it's headstock broken twice, the bridge is worn and the humbucker covers are fading. It's my toy. Everything of mine seems to have to be rebuilt at some point. ;)

Fixed:
We both have semi-rare cars and drive them.
I don't think the Marauder is all that rare.
Mine is in storage and will not see snow again (as long as the Magnum keeps running).
When it's on the road, I drive it pretty hard, but not as hard as you drive yours.
Anyway, I don't care what you do to your guitar. Hell, I hacked a mint 60s Teisco so I could put the pickups in a base-level Epiphone.

You should have seen the Silvertone I kept fixing. Feedback was a pain if I turned my amp past 2. Someone finally stole that from me back in high school.

That has broken strings written all over it! Anyways, that's a Stewmac part. Find the install instructions here: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Bridges,_tailpieces/Electric_guitar_tremolos/Les_Trem_Stop-Tailpiece_Tremolo.html

Stewart-MacDonald has so much awesome stuff.
Also +65,000 on the Strat thing.
Had one for years and loved it, just got tired of it.
Humbuckers only from now on, well I guess I do have a couple P-90 equipped guitars...lol but yes, I've made the step up to Gibson and have never looked back.
Strats ore OK but are kinda a one-trick-pony if you know what I mean.
Let us know how it works out.
