for some reason my car only blows hot through the vents, I put it on max a/c, heard the compresser kick in but it only blows extremely hot, even on the coldest temp. what could be wrong?

according to inford, the blend door actuator requires the dash to be removed to access.

lol I hope not. dont want all the squeeks and rattles afterwards. I checked on CVN and found a thread on how to get at it. the pass airbag has to come out and a vent tube, then you have pretty good access. but you still cant get at one screw very well so the guy from texas just jammed some screws somewhere to hold it in the cold position. god I hope it just keeps working.

mine just started acting up as well, I blame it on the lady of the house, she never drives the car, let her take it this morning for a coffee run, comes home say nothing, I get in drive to work, and notice it is high heat at 90 degrees..ugh, so turn it down and still high heat all vents, a/c kicks on but does not cool, so I figure the blend door as well, will attempt to erase codes during lunch today..Hopefully that works! How do I get to the actuator and replace if necessary?

ok, so I just ran the test on my unit, code 024 comes up which means a blend door short. I was able to manipulate the cold air blowing or hot air depending on how i turned on the unit, problem is now I have a loud ticking sound coming from uner the dash, kida sounds like the actuator is trying to move the blend door, but is stuck. any advise..

Instead of the auto function have you tryed to change the operation manualy to see what it does?
Never had a problem with mine yet on the Marauder thank god but in my older Grand Marquies when I had it the auto function had some problems at times where as telling it where to blow and manualy adjusting the fan speed it would work just fine.
Probably barking up the wrong tree here but just trying to see if you have checked out every avenue of the functions to see if one is working and the other isn't or it concerns over all function no matter what.

when mine was acting up I just cleared the code by pressing the defrost button when it's displaying the code, havent had a problem since. and ya I looked into it. there is one bolt that is pinned inder some dash parts... the dash needs to be tilted back to get at that actuator.... 8 hour job at the dealer.....

A tech that has done it before about 4 hours. But the service writer always charges you book time according to general rules seeing the techs are usualy paid by piece work not hourly.

UGh..pull the dash, I had an 88 cougar, that the heater core went out in all digital dash and pulled that thing..the noises never stopped afterward..I reset the codes, and it still made the noise. When i operate it manually I can get either cold or hot, automatic I have not tried. I just put a new a/c system in last year, and was hoping I would be good for this vegas summer comming up..not so lucky!

3m foam backed tape placed against all of the points the dash is bolted up to again. Stops a load of customer complaints after a job is done.
That is how I solved that problem with the 84 and 85 Ford LTD's that needed heater core's. Remember those mid size 4 door LTD's? A big pain in the ass for heater core's like your Cougar same set up.

What I would try first is rebuild the HVAC control module. Just for S&G, since it's easy.

Sorry, yes it is the EATC rebuild. The HVAC controller is the EATC.

ok, so I have rebuilt the EATC, replaced the eniter a/c compressor, dryer and condenser last year and now I have a blend door issue. Will check it out on the drive home tonight from work and see if the ticking sound goes away..

well did about two hours of searching and still kinda at a loss, damn thing is ticking like every second even with the hvac unit off. guess that actuator does have a short as the code said. I don't have an extra hvac unit to swap, so I may just bite the bullet and pull the dash this weekend, I read on a web site where i can manually disconnect the actuator and the blend door will stay put. but I think I ill still need to pull the dash to do that. more investiation tomorrow.
