Yup. Just got the call a few hours ago. I'm with the USAF and I'm a turbo-prop mechanic on C-130s. I'll be gone for at least a month. The good thing is that since it's winter, i won't miss out on driving the Marauder!!

Ryan
Take care if yourself down here. It is a disaster. I am with a FEMA Task Force in California and we have unofficially been out on notice we are going down on the 25th. I am a Hazmat Specialist with USAR.
If we go, I am going in and out in USAF C-130's so I will personally be counting on you.
Thanks!

I dont need to tell you to do your best. Be strong brother. I will be at Afghanistan for 14 months and my Marauder will have another special mission, "been in his garage for 14 months" (He always has his mission at the same time I have mine).

update:
we've launched and recovered 570+ aircraft since monday the 19th. ive been working 12 hour shifts since. It's a reality check because you're so closely tied to what's going on and the fact that I have a direct effect on the mission. I actually unloaded Haitians from the aircraft.
And i'll tell you what, there's no motivation like looking into a C-130 thats fully loaded with water and food and having an entire crew look at you and listen because whatever I am the only person who can fix this plane now and get the supplies to the people that need them.
My job down here is to keep the planes in the air. We park them, gas, and go.
In one 12 hour shift, we launched and recovered 47 aircraft including 5 in a 10 minute span.
.....and now i'm down here for 120 days.
but we got to meet some NFL cheerleaders who are here for the PorBowl!!
I'm at Homestead.
Talk you all later.
Thanks guys and girls,
-ryan s.

Homestead. 30 miles south of Miami. And it's fun.
And Babbage, i'll be home in May, so, well, we will go sometime after i get back. Maybe i can get some gears and we'll have ourselves a really good race!!

How did that name come about? I see the 5 cents for LHD-5, any other reason?
Some of the nicknames I hear for boats are pretty funny. Apparently USS Enterprise got dubbed "Mobile Chernobyl".
