Mid-50's Plymouth, maybe?

knee jerk reaction, I would say it is a MOPAR, mid fifties.

Yes, but what is this thing? I'm guessing a Mopar too.

It looks like a mid 50's Plymouth Fury.

I think it's a little small for that unless they were smaller in the mid 50s as suppose to a 58 like Christine.

I was thinking a 56 Fury which was I believe the smallest Fury made, if your're thinking smaller could possible be a Plaza or Belvedere sport coupe also. In 57 the Fury got the "shark" fins.

Yeah, that's when they turned into boats.

Could also be a '58 Plymoth Plaza. I think I'm leaning this way.

Mid 50's Mopar for sure.

I'm going to stick with 56 Fury. But the funny thing is in the book cover the key lock is shaved.

Interesting point, that, or the lock is in the button on the handle. That would make it:

(a) older than a '55

or

(b) not a Plymouth? '54 Chebbie, maybe?

It could be a modified car they use for the shoot. Shaving the locks and/or door handles is a popular mod for 50's cars, makes them look cleaner.

Looking at the cover pic side by side with the other you can see the cover pic car's vent window is lot's larger than the 56.It may be a Chebby after all.

I am leaning towards 56 Fury too. If you read his books he mentions one in almost everything, only one has ever made it to the screen though... to my knowledge.

The Chevy looks too curved to match the book cover.

changed my mind. look at the portion of the post between the two door panels. 54 chevy 4 door is very close and the vent window is very simular, door handle looks the same. this is not the best example because of the extra chrome.

true, it is his sharp eye that lead me to the conclusion. I did however look over the Fords hoping to find 'the real S. King car'.

Or you could street race it and make a ton of money. Just plan out your battles the right way and all the green goes to you. :D
