I found the clunk/grating/scraping noise on the new F250 that was driving me INSANE!!!!! Ford has a problem with the body mount rubber compound on 2005 - 2018 F250/F350's. It starts deteriorating after a few years.
This is what it's supposed to look like
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201011/f40ef15e44cc9f9ceae12c9f4bd097 bf.jpg
This is what it starts to do
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201011/c62869832ef3c45d239ed56113f461 f7.jpg
This is the one that was making noise. Without the rubber to space them out the metal cup the mount sits in was resting directly on the frame

Because Ford STILL has not updated the rubber compound, I found a company that makes 4x4 off road aftermarket parts. They have a polyurethane & Kevlar bushing kit. https://www.daystarsuspensionparts.com/kf04050kv ($156 on Amazon). The kit covers F250 1999 thru 2018 and F350 2005 thru 2018.
I replaced the #3 & #2 position left and right ones today (6 total). The 2 #1s I'll do next weekend. Too much other stuff to do this weekend. Good news is, quiet as a Lincoln... [emoji4]

My Marauder has been sitting untouched for more than a year. Been doing some work on the front half of the car and noticed my Froozenboost heat exchanger needed some immediate attention.
All the welded mounting tabs had cracked from vibration and stress and needed replacement. I installed longer and heavier material so it never happens again. I could have whipped out my spool gun but had some stuff on the shelf for years dying to get used. Durafix welding rods saved the day and made her as strong as ever.

I had the mount welds on my condenser all crack and develop a leak. I knew I was gambling when I tied the upper ones to the core support and the lowers to the frame rails because of flex but gambled anyways. It lasted a couple of years. Because of lazy I just mounted the replacement one the same way and it’s still holding good after 5 or more years now? Still not the right way but seems to work. [emoji6]
Looking good Bob!

Step father’s truck. He hit so many deer up where he was living he stopped fixing the damage. Headlights were so badly oxidized it was like driving with them off at night. The bumper support was bent causing the skin ends to be all askew. I decided to replace headlamps as it was too dangerous to drive at night. When I saw how cheap the parts were, decided to surprise him and replace all the damaged stuff.

Got the roof and trunk painted. The paint on both was cracked badly all over and the roof was starting to rust.
Body guy says he worked with a Mercury-lincoln dealer back in the early 2000s and told me for some reason all the cars are painted twice and that causes cracking over time. (thicker paint and layers = easier to crack or something)
Sure enough, he shows me by sanding through clear/paint/clear/paint/primer on both panels. Why did ford do this?
MENINBLK
11-02-2020, 05:26 PM
That is a very different explanation than what I had heard.
I had heard thar Ford had sprayed alcohol through the paint guns to clear the paint from the machines and never put air through the paint guns to clear the alcohol before applying the next layer of paint, so the alcohol was in-between the layers.
Now it makes sense that they painted the cars twice to cover up their mistake.

FINALLY figured out my fuel pump/FPDM/relay/Boost a pump/upgraded wiring occasional cutout issue.
Bad ignition cylinder. I even had a new one sitting in a box for 4 years waiting for installation.
That is a known issue. The coils backfire into the wiring harness and it causes the ECM to shut down.
Then you have to cycle the ignition to get the ECM to reboot and restart the engine.
I replaced all my coils because of that.

F250:
Finished radio install job. VERY nice unit. Kenwood DNR876S with Garmin NAV.
Replaced washer solvent pump line, nozzle line and nozzles. Heat and age caused them to crack off and crumble. Sprays great now.
Reinstalled front inner fenders. Left them out from cab mount job for having under coating done.
Removed the new but wrong (long story that involved a lot of cursing) trans pan and installed the original pan after having the drain plug insert welded. It broke loose and was spinning rendering the drain plug useless

Finally did the o-Rings in my EATC! So good to have air through the vents again. Two of those suckers were dried out and brittle, of course, you do all 4 while you have it out with fresh silicone ones.
Should have done this sooner, about an hour's work, and $5 in parts. And if anyone needs some O-Rings, I've got about 96 more to spare! :D

No bikes this year, sold the last one a couple weeks of months back. Just a 900rr frame, engine, and ninja 600 engine left over for go cart projects.

undercover visor light???
I used to work for a government agency on the Police and tactical vehicles and we would strip them out of the police equipment and throw most of it away. One of the undercover vehicles has a light that attached with Velcro straps to the visor and used the cigarette lighter to power it. Going to mess with some buddies here and there for some laughs.

So, Monday morning I went to start Big Green ("new" F250) and she was stone cold dead...
Jumped in Pontiac to get to office. Left early to diagnose. Battery puked and the bad one sucked all the juice from #2.
I had entertained replacing the batteries in October when doing all the other work as they were 36m Motorcraft that looked 5+ years old or could even be OEM given it is a southern truck BUT given I had hemorrhaged SOOOOO much $$$ lately I decided to delay.
Went to a big parts chain that I wont name (but initials are AZ) to get 2 new batteries. They offer an AGM unit and since the last Sears store within 100 miles closed, I've gone to them for batts.
Website showed they had in stock but of course - only 1.
The kid brings the one to me and states I may not want it as date code is 2018 (poor manager!!!). I said no thanks, get me 2 new ones and I'll pick them up tomorrow.
So I get there today and there is 1 brand new unit by register waiting for me and the guy "has to go get #2". He walks up with the same 2018 unit I rejected yesterday! No caps on the posts, same charger clamp marks on the posts, no date code sticker (the kid pulled it off when I was originally there) and same finger marks in the dust we made when originally inspecting it. "We sent that one back..."
I didn't get pissed, didn't make a scene (y'all would have been proud of me! :D). I simply stated for what they cost ($200) I would not accept any unit w/o 2020 or newer date code and as no date sticker on it I would not accept.

HEAT WAVE!!! 40* and bright sunny today so did some stuff on F250 I've been putting off due to cold. Removed deer damaged mudflap so I can fix it, Checked out drivers heated seat that wasn't working very good (looks like just a restricted filter), cleaned out trash, swept front floor and installed new Weathertech mats.

1) I performed the Cylinder head rear cooling mod
2) Installed 180 T-stat
3) Installed Marty Tune
Have not driven the car yet as it is in the last 3-5 hour cooling off stage to fill and burp coolant as per https://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?98532-Cooling-System-Burp-Procedure https://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?98532-Cooling-System-Burp-Procedure
I took some pictures and will give a write up on the rear cooling mod for the people like me unfamiliar with this engine and new to Marauder. Th google searches find tons of Mustang cooling mod which is different than Marauder, and any Marauder ones I found are ancient so was not sure if there was updates or same as how I wound up doing it.

No. The truck either came with or someone added an electronic flasher.
If you do LEDs and get hyperflash, don't screw around with resistors. Just swap the flasher with an electronic one like the Novita EP27 or whatever unit fits your vehicle.

I just upgraded my 2020 Ranger to LED headlights and foglights.
Incredible difference!
The OEM bulbs weren't too bad....but they look like gold candles compared to modern LEDs.
Check out the Headlight Revolution website.
https://www.headlightrevolution.com/buyer-guide-by-vehicle/2003+Mercury+Marauder
They test all the bulb options specifically by vehicle to assure you get the best beam pattern/closest to OEM beam pattern.

so they drive around with their HIGH beams on to compensate.

Scary times ^^^ I remember! Mine didn’t come with the template. I never even heard about a template until years after I did mine..
Then there was drilling out the trunk keyhole for the backup cam that worked for like a year.
Both the icing for me would probably be the something like 10” x 20” hole I cut in the floor to “rearrange/reconfigure” the trans tunnel.. [emoji2960]
There has been plenty of other reconstructing along the way. But as always way too much OCD thought and execution have made it all come together nicely. [emoji6]

I could but no thanks!
I’ve had my eye on a 2018 F150 limited for $49,900 with only 26,000 on the clock. Let someone more special than myself eat the $24,000 that vehicle has lost in value. Besides, I’ll mess it up the first day anyways. I’ve learned I can’t have anything nice in life. Someone, usually myself, will bugger it up right away as usual..
Seriously, with excellent credit I can get almost equal to that of new truck loan rates. Add to that the savings in any gap insurance and it’s a no brainer to me, more money to foolishly spend on mods! [emoji6]

Still really good, Pulled the top end off, and had the valve covers and timing chain cover powder coated, Swapped timing chains with new Ford Performance set up. Updated the throttle body, Removed the Exhaust headers and cats, time to order some new ones from Mo's!!!!. Yanked out the rear end and swapped in some 4:10's with a Marty Tune of Course, new brakes, rotors, and in search of some new tires... No Super Charger yet.......hahahahahah

Finall after how many years??? l addressed the constant running fan. It dawned on me a few days ago the trans temp sensor might be the culprit. Sure enough trans connector pin 15 (trans temp 5V input) was obviously feeding back zero through pin 16 (signal return) to the PCM considering I don’t have a temp sensor. Well this was triggering the fan thinking the trans was running hot.
I first tried to just connect the two but the signal would go from 4.6 to 0 immediately and trigger the fan. Apparently the PCM doesn’t care for having its own signal being thrown back in its face. I’m not sure what the threshold is but lower the number equals the hotter the temps. Not having any resistors on hand I opted for a 3mm pre wired LED to bridge the two and it worked! [emoji16] That brought me right at 3.0 Now I’ve got a tiny blue LED glowing under the master cylinder and quiet car again. At least until I get around to ordering a 10K resistor. Hopefully within a couple of years? [emoji6][emoji1303]

Rewrapped the center console with a stitched leather one from Ebay, came out really clean and looks better than the usual cover imo. Also started removing the 20% tint installed by the previous owner, windshield was first to go. Will deal with the other windows later on but I can at least see at night now. Still getting this thing sorted out, great start so far.

Getting new rear shoes. Finally. They’ve been bald for nearly two years but only seeing less than a thousand a year makes it hard to justify. But it’s beyond dangerous on dry roads so…
Decided on the Nitto 421Q that replaced the 420S that I fell in love with so many years ago. Hopefully they bite just as good. Hell, even crappy OEM’s would be an improvement!

[yesterday I] Recovered from a track session by draining and filling the transmission pan, flushing a quart of brake fluid (fronts got hottttt), and switching back to street tires. Double checked all the bolts from my suspension replacement/upgrade and found a couple that had backed off a turn or two, cranked them back down and getting ready to order replacement nylocs (Front UCAs seem to be a problem).
Need to do some sort of brake upgrade before the next track day, front rotors are toast. Can't decide between Wilwood or Zack/C6 kit.

I started off by cheating my way to a lower idle by making a new IAC gasket but leaving one port tiny, like only 3/16”. Not only did that drop my RPMs but also seemed to cure the occasional hanging idle, quicker rev drops, AND FINALLY cured by bucking at speeds under 35-40MPH. Parking lots and subdivisions were a nightmare to hold speed in. You had to ride the clutch once it started or you’d better be wearing a cowboy hat and keeping an arm up..
It never occurred to me the bucking could be in the IAC. Even with a brand new motorcraft one, dual shortened return springs on the Accufab, and numerous fine tuning of the stop screw and TPS adjustments, NOTHING would lower my idle lower than 1,200! Perhaps when I modded the upper intake for the single blade I opened up the IAC intake a tad too much? Or a combination of that and too much air getting past the TB blade either by blade fitment or the blower simply still creating too much of a push, or both?? I have a big red BOV always bleeding off and a Tial 50mm always open to atmosphere being used as a waste gate essentially to keep the boost down as much as possible so I wouldn’t think it would be producing enough at idle to jack with the TB blade.
Don’t know, don’t care, just happy!

Not as clear as the YouTube video results, but at least now I can see the bulbs inside. I tried by hand and got the results I got. Had a problem start up last month of driving last year. While cruising at speed the car would very slightly surge forward and back quickly, like a buck or slight engine miss. It felt like fuel starvation? The issue was so slight most would not notice but after 40 years of being a wrench I am so in tune with my vehicles it was a glaring issue in my eyes. I had been wanting to replace the COPs so used this as an excuse. So: new plugs, new COPs from Tommy at Sparta, installed fuel pressure gauge. Still did it, fuel pressure was very erratic so installed modded FPDM I had sitting around waiting to be installed. erratic pressure cured but drivability issue still present. I had a new FRPS in the glove box for emergency after witnessing a member have one go out at a Marauderville so installed it. BINGO! that was the issue. All fixed. :-)

Forgot to post up here about the headlight polishing. I used the Mother's aluminum wheel polish on a rag and it got a bit better. Then I tried using a battery drill with a lambs wool type pad. It got a wee bit better still, but the headlights are not as clear as I would like. I can now see the bulb inside the housing that was very hard to discern before. The yellowing is pretty much gone, but there is still some white stuff left. Some of the white or cloudiness seems like it might be inside the lens. So long story short the lights are better, but could use a bit more work.

Got a text back from my bodyman. He got the bodywork done on my driver's QP and hopes to paint it this weekend. He noted that the car had been resprayed what appears to be 3x previously. I've owned the car since '08 and haven't had any work done there, and the OASIS makes no mention of any such repair while under warranty. Wondering if this was done on the STAP line or if Pete (Wags) had work done on it at some point when he owned it. I know Darkside (the second owner, right before me) didn't have any paint done then.

Had a clicking sound coming from the rear. So I removed the rotors, found the parking brake material unbonded from the shoe. Just riding around in the rotor drum. But the biggest surprise was the inboard pad on both sides. They have 3 prongs that hold them in the piston. They have been on so long that 2 of the prongs had rusted away. So I get to throw some pads on the rear tonight when I get home.

Per the advise of EBC, switched my pads to Yellowstuff in the front and Redstuff in the rear. Wow, what a difference that made! They do not make Yellowstuff rears so Red was the next best choice. I had Akebono pads which are good stock replacements, but weren't up to the task of super hard braking. I deglazed the rotors with one of those fancy Amazon dingleberry honing tools.

Swapped my D1SC for a D1X. Surprisingly it did everything that Procharger claimed it would do. Thru efficiencies created with the new impeller/volute design, it lowered IAT's and makes more top end power with less boost. It's a little softer on the bottom end but I wanted that anyway as the car is on the cusp of being streetable, for me anyway.

To prevent traveling breakdown due to OEM Charge Air Tube blowout, upgraded to H&S Motorsports 122011 ( https://hs-motorsports.com/collections/2011-2016-6-7l-power-stroke/products/11-16-ford-6-7l-intercooler-upgrade-kit-oem-silicone-version?variant=7149513408569 ). Beautiful part, billet aluminum with a very nice super tough silicone hose.
Then did ATF fluid & filter change and installed BD Diesel's 6R140 pressure enhancer solenoid ( https://www.thoroughbreddiesel.com/1030385/ ) to bump line pressure up to reduce wear & improve high load trans operation.
Great day today until the sky opened up and released Noah's flood! Had to end all the work I was doing... :shake:

Last week I pulled the Silver out of a three year slumber. Faithful beast started right up. New fresh full tank of California expensive premium, full hand wash and wax, tire pressure check, warm up, and easy roll around town. Freeway for thirty minutes, then off to California smog check.
No CA SMOG problems or issues as noted in previous other threads.
Smog place was fairly busy, and as always, I warned the smog tech to be very careful as the silver has no blemishes, so I walked him around the car before he got into it. I also warned him the tech that the Silver is a little "jumpy" from its' long slumber.
He drove it around into the back bay and the entire waiting roomed noted when they extended rev'ed it, and all looked over at me. I just smiled. When they opened the hood, the tech called over every other tech and they walked a conga line around the Silver.
When they finished and pulled it out front, the guys all followed the car outside into the sun, still surrounding it. Again, the waiting room folks all looked over at me.
The office manager came in and said, The guys all love your car!
Next week, I am bringing the black out of a six year slumber. Have to tow it to mechanic to change out the fuel pump, and drain all the gas. After, I will wash, wax, and repeat all above.
I am now ready to rejoin the Marauder community!
I am sorry it has been so long.

Wasn't quite today, and it wasn't really anything like servicing or whatnot, but this weekend I did manage to consume a full quarter tank driving about 25 miles. High speed highway cruising with OD turned off can really make the engine thirsty.

After fixing the blown spark plug, The driver's window regulator broke for the third time. After that 2 days later the A/C compressor died.
Replaced that and the condenser with the Four Seasons kit, and then had to replace the manifold hose with it.

I know there's probably not much (if anything) I can do to help you out, but don't hesitate to ask...I'll give it a try if I think I can...or something...I dunno...lol. So got to messin' around with the junk in my trunk. Tried to figure out if I could take the trunk lid spoiler off, but the only bolts/screws I saw in the general vicinity of where the spoiler sits on the trunk lid are two 5/16", one on each side of the trunk lid. I loosened one to see what it would do and the spoiler remained intact...wouldn't budge at all..so I just tightened it back up and left it alone. After that I went through all the crap that I had accumulated in my trunk and found all kinds of bits 'n bobs 'n parts 'n pieces that had been sitting there for probably going on 5 years now. If you take a look at the picture I attached, even my cleaning supplies tried to escape due to lack of use...lol. Actually, it was just my McGuire's tire shine slooooowing leaking out of the bottle because it was sitting nearly upside down. Still have 1/3 of a bottle left and my hands looks nice 'n shiny after wiping it all up...lol. Gonna have nice weather after tomorrow for 4-5 days so will continue to clean 'er up and looking good again...

There are 6-8 pre-cut holes in my trunk lid. I shined a flashlight in each one and the only ones that gave access to any screw heads were the last ones on each side of the lid. Went out and took a pic. Sorry it's blurry, but was kinda hard since I had to hold my phone with the screen pointing down and 1" above the trunk organizer cover panels in order to get most of the lid in the frame...took me 5 tries just to get the one I've uploaded.

The hole you circled on the left has the 5/16" screw head visible as does it's counterpart on the other side of trunk lid. I looked in every single hole that was in close proximity to where the spoiler is mounted (just like the 2 holes with visible screw heads) with a flashlight and the holes on the far edge on each side of the trunk lid are the only ones where screw heads are visible. I looked twice at every single hole. With a flashlight. An LED super-bright flashlight. I loosened one of the screw heads and pushed on the spoiler to see if it would move and it didn't budge. I will go out and look again tomorrow, if it's not raining; forecast calling for 30% chance during the day, 40% in the afternoon/evening. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but today I only saw 2 holes with screw heads visible.
Appreciate the help.

Thank you gdmjoe! Yes, the instructions paint the full picture now. I see they show 4 bolts and the use of adhesive tape; the tape would explain why mine wouldn't budge even after loosening one bolt. And I swear there are only 2 bolts on mine, not 4 as the instructions show. Like I mentioned earlier, I'll take another look tomorrow and will take pics of what I see and post up here.
Since there is adhesive tape involved, I don't feel 100% comfortable trying to take it off. If I screw something up, I don't have the means to fix it. I plan on getting it repainted along with the bumper covers in the near future...was just wanting to take the spoiler piece first to see how good of a job the place does. I've got other things that need $$$ to fix so this will need to wait for a bit.

Use a heat gun to soften the tape and adhesive it it'll come off successfully.

Yeah, don't have one of those...I just have the basic tools. Plus, I'm the type that finds a way to break stuff. I have used a heat gun before...was attempting to dry out the inside of my headlamp after fixing the cracks where water water was leaking in. Edit: ok, so the pics came up reversed from how I attached them...so reverse the order...lol.

You can also use fishing line and "saw" thru the sticky tape. Then use a 3M magic eraser wheel to get the remaining tape off. Finally, clean the surface with acetone. Don't worry, the acetone will not harm your paint.

Appreciate your help, but I don't fish so would have to go buy some line. I was thinking the spoiler was just bolted on and that I could take it off/re-install easily. Now that I see it's got adhesive tape I'll just let the paint shop deal with it when I bring my car there to have the bumper repaint job done. If they mess it up then they'll be responsible and have the ability to fix; if I mess it up I'll be responsible and will have to pay someone else to have it fixed...lol.

Blew up the diff again. Two diffs in 7 months / 880 miles. Maybe a new record??
This rear REALLY doesn’t appreciate clutch drops, power, and the chubby car it’s expected to push!
Last one was Ford Racing and lasted a good few years before I exploded the spiders. This one was a Yukon dura grip that seemed pretty impressive until heading home today. No clue what gave out, one nasty audible pop and neutral city. Even put it in 1st and got out to witness a spinning driveshaft. No crunching sounds like when I shear the teeth of the 4.30’s, not violent left to right body movement like when the spiders binded up and shattered, just a single bang.
Towed home, put away, will open it up someday this year or next.

Nope! Actually I was rolling at around 40. But they are brand new Nitto 421Q’s and as they spin just enough to squeal, the car absolutely plants you into the seats. 1st gear is a complete waste at any speed so I never bother even trying, just immediate shredding and rev limiter. 2nd and up pedaling after 3,500 each gear is such an adrenaline rush!
It's obvious that you know how to drive and I’m really proud you’re never afraid to do free in house non biased independent testing of aftermarket equipment for all of us to read and learn from and gain first hand experience and all the meanwhile taking the upmost, over the top care of your pristine MM. You need to sell it to me for nothing less than $20,000.

Time just keeps dragging on now that they're actually on the way! I decided to go for the top tier Morimoto kit without any bells and whistles. I really like the classy look of panthers in general so it was a no-brainer to go for a clean, OEM look.
I'm planning on driving this car up the East Coast to visit family this summer so I'm very very glad Kevin managed to get them finished beforehand so I'll have a safer journey north. The price was steep, but I really do think they'll be worth the cost!

Oh I do, but I’m not willing to spend the time or money. Truth is I lost interest in this car years ago. 6 speed certainly helped 7 1/2 years ago, two years later the power increase was great but it really never outweighed the cost and headaches associated. Besides the two diffs this year I will say it’s been nothing but trouble free. I think I just over did my effort and I’m just not feeling it anymore.
I’ll more than likely just throw in another one out of warranty and get rid of it in the spring. Someone else can easily take it to the next level if they so those.
