So the father thinks he's going to change his kids sexual orientation by not giving him this Camaro?

If anyone wanted to try that with me the'd need a new Aston Martin, a couple of Ferrari's, and a Gulf Stream 5.

That should do it. What is funny to me is not that many people may know up to now the kid is gay.But the father is putting it like on the 6:00 news. It is he who will make the whole world know.

I'm sorry, but have you guys tried being a 16/18/21 year old lately? Money isn't readily available to people our age, nor is credit to draw a loan. To have a car that will last more than six months, down here we're probably looking at at least 2500-3000 dollars, and any less than that you end up with a car that will just mean you've thrown away that money, STUPID idea if you ask me. At 7.75 an hour, working part time between a full-time college schedule, I don't make nearly enough to pay for a car that price in cash in any reasonable amount of time, which is just about my only option, 'cause like I said, these banks don't like giving out cash to people my age. (Who'da thunk it, a bank that wasn't giving a loan out to someone without credit?)

Paid for my first car, a '50 Pontiac Silver Streak Eight which cost me $200.00. That was a LOT of money back in '59 for a 15 year old. I did NOT buy my kids any cars.

To have a car that will last more than six months, down here we're probably looking at at least 2500-3000 dollars, and any less than that you end up with a car that will just mean you've thrown away that money, I realise that many things have changed since the mid '70s, but I was 17 when I paid $95 for my first car in 1973...a 1960 Chevy Biscayne...bottom of the line car...6-cylinder, manual steering and brakes, no radio. The car burned so much oil, I was frequently mistaken for a mosquito-fogger. That car lasted me 3 years, during which time I learned a LOT about DIY maintenance and repair, as I most certainly couldn't afford to take it somewhere everytime something broke or fell off.

My point is that kids don't need, and many don't deserve, a really nice car as their FIRST car (not referring to you, BluGruv). There's nothing wrong with owning a shitbox as your first car and learning the value of a dollar by having to do repairs and such yourself. Now that I can AFFORD really nice cars, I can also afford to pay someone else to fix them, but that really galls me so I still prefer to do what I can myself. Leaves me more money for other things...

I think you misunderstood my point...I'm not claiming I'm "all that", I'm saying that I'm grateful I HAD to learn car repair...it's saved me many thousands of dollars over the years. If I had just been handed a muscle car at 17, I would most likely be dead, for one thing, but I would probably not have much of the skill and knowledge I now enjoy.

MrBluGruv

I had a Galant as my first car, and that one and the Marauder I have right now have been great cars. I don't want to seem ungrateful or expecting, cause that's not the case at all, I've seen what some of my peers have gotten as first cars and how hard they've had to work just to get that and I feel incredibly lucky. I still firmly believe I don't deserve as wonderful a car as the Marauder. :( But I am also glad it wasn't my first because, as RF Overlord mentioned, if I had this when I was 16, I'd probably have killed myself.

All I argue, is that opportunity is very hard to come by these days. I know some of you guys are unemployed, and just imagine if YOU guys are having a hard time finding work, just think about us without any serious job experience and without a degree of any kind. I consider myself lucky to make 7.75 an hour as a student worker computer tech for my college.

Quoted for truth.

Funny thing is actually, I payed more for full coverage on my Galant than on the Marauder, by about $100 monthly. I now only pay around $88 a month. :) I think it's either due to the fact that no where near here is another Marauder that's been in an accident, so there is no history with these cars and accidents nearby, or that the car may technically register as a grand marquis. Either way, don't really care, just enjoying the cheap insurance. :)

I bought my first car for $2500, back in 1976. I believe I made quite a bit less than $7.75 back then, was in college full time, and had to buy insurance (and an SR-22A shortly there after). I don't know your bills/living status, but instead of can't, find a way.

MrBluGruv

My college education costs $10000 a semester. I have to bust my ass to get grades good enough to get scholarships to bring it to half that cost. I don't know how college was back in the day, but they design lesson plans with the expectation that for every hour you have in the classroom, you have at least three that you must dedicate to the class outside of the classroom. That's 60 hours a week that goes to school. I put at least 20 hours in weekly at work. there goes at least 80 hours of my week. Let's be generous and say I only need 6 hours of sleep a night instead of 8, that's 42 hours gone, putting me at 122 consumed hours a week. Let's say another 10 hours combined meal time, given I would take less than an hour for any given meal and already don't have every meal I should, and that's 132 hours. my commuting time is roughly half an hour one-way 5 days a week, and that's helped by the fact that I work where I go to school, another 10 hours gone then, so that puts me at 142 hours gone. With 168 hours in the week, these numbers mean I have 26 hours of unnoccupied time to myself to just breathe. And like I said, that's given I don't get the sleep I should, and that I ONLY work 20 hours a week and not more. Can you see where it's not really a feasible idea to cram any more **** in there?

And you know what else, I don't owe a damn dime to anyone either. So unless all the above mentioned vehicles were bought by someone substantially older than myself, I'm doubting they paid full cash when they bought them, especially new. Like I've been saying, my point isn't that it's impossible, it's just that it's damn hard.

Heck, I didn't even have to get out of the car for shopping carts, just rammed them. I would still have her if she didn't get killed by a fallen tree while I was in Japan. RIP Ol Betsy. :bigcry:

Opportunity shmopportunity. Complaining about no credit shows how spoiled these kids are. Credit is something that is EARNED. Since when do you have to have a loan to buy a car. I payed cash for my MM and I heard zero complaints from the dealer. Work hard and SAVE. Bum a ride, get a bike or take the bus until you can afford to buy the car.

And buy their own insurance, registration and inspection. Have to teach them RESPONSIBILITY or they'll turn out like Motrohead350.

If they turn out like me good, I really wish I could find more people to connect with.

As far as daddy buying me the car, I actually didn't want him to. I had enough saved o to get an ex-police car, but he wanted me to have something with a warranty and wanted me safe. The first car I wanted was a 2002 Pontiac 35th anniversary Trans Am. He said no, it's fiberglass and too small. My dad was good friends with someone that had a BMW, Saab, Lincoln/Mercury dealer.

I knew about the Marauder when it was a concept car and always loved big cars since I was ten years old or so. I told him about the Marauder in Aug 2002 and wanted him to check it out with me. We even brought my Marshall half stack amp to see if it could fit in the trunk for gigs... my dads suggestion actually. The amp didn't fit, but the car sure was nice. Plus I wanted something that I knew I could modify.

One week before we decided to get the car my dad came home with a brand new BMW 3 series (not an M3) and said I could have it. My response was "Let me think about it, no." I gave it a drive for the night anyway and it was fun, but no Marauder. So my dad got me the Marauder and it has kept me safe and alive since then.

If you want to call it a muscle car I would disagree with you, but it was a lot safer than the Trans Am I originally wanted. It was a good move to stay away from that car, but it took me a few years to appreciate that.

Responsibility? I never wanted it, but I had it, probably worse than a lot of you. I had my cash saved up for fun stuff, but it got to a point where I was actually keeping the electricity on and medication in my moms cabinet all on my dollar. It's not easy having to be the one that keeps bread on the table at 17 years old, I'm sure as heck wasn't the only one that had to live through something like that either.

I'd say I'm pretty responsible, but for everyones lack of knowledge to my life story you see me as a young irresponsible punk.

As far as how I found the ad, a friend sent it to me on facebook, believe it or not. He isn't my gay lover, we share a twitter account. ;)

I bought my Marauder when I was 21, and a full time student at MSU. Before that I had a 96 Cougar. If all you can afford is a $500 car then that's life. If you can't afford a car, buy a bicycle, can't afford that then walk or take the bus, life is hard. Parents have no obligation to buy their kids cars in my mind.

That is crazy. I have a cousin that is gay and I still love him. If you don't care about your own family then who will you care about??? When that father is on his death bed, the compassion and the love for his son will show....

That's exactly how I feel. I had a gay uncle that died of AIDS. He was still a cool guy, but I didn't know him too well and didn't know he was gay until years after his death. Didn't make any difference to me.

He usually whispers it.....
For real tho, I got suckered into a charity event at our VFW Post. I was asked if I would like to help out with a womanless fashion review. I said sure, why not, thinking I'll help serve dinner for it or whatever. Nooooooo, I was WAY off:shake:. There are other pics on here of that night, along with the whole story. Raised a ton of cash for the Veterans Hospital with that event so it's all good.:)

We go host bingo at the hospital at least once a month. It will move you to tears seeing some of the people in there. I think the sobering experience of realizing our own mortality is what causes us "Cooties" to get drunk and have fun.

Why do you think the father was horrible?

'76 was not that good of a model year.
