Shinning my boots this AM and I started to remember the time when I was in High School ROTC ("53-'57). On drill days, M/W/F, we would take the early bus to downtown San Antonio and visit a popular shoe shine shop on Houston Steet near corner of Saint Mary's.
There, for 25 cents, we would have our black boots "spit" shined to a mirror finish in less than two minutes. Amazing how these little Mexican boys with their "Secret" formula and a popping rag could transform a dull boot into a Barret-Jackson Quality shine.
Your could buy their product in small bottles, but they would never tell you what was in it. I tried different liquids but it didn't work.
Wonder if the shop is still there? They did a big business with the GI's from Lackland AFB and Fort Sam.
God, those were happy days.:2thumbs:
