Only a 9 hour day from winter time in Fl. but a haul and a half from Summer time in Maine. Great place for a Marauderville and a 46th wedding anniversary celebration all in one. Location is great, a one day trip from Bossier City, La. 850 miles. Hope to see some friends from the Sunshine State (Fla) only 727 miles from Miami.

This could very well be the largest Marauderville yet. Equidistant from most Marauder population centers.

Patricia and I are penciled in.

+1 for University Place..

I always stay there when I go to the races, plenty of hotels and restaurants in this immediate area. Also, plenty of retail, Wal Mart, Home Depot, Auto parts stores, movie theaters, Concord Mills mall, etc..

This would be maybe 10 - 15 min from the downtown area/Nascar Hall Of Fame.

University Place will also put you with driving distance of many Nascar teams shops, Roush, Hendrick, Yates, etc. Go on tours, museums, gift shops.

(FYI A few good "adult entertainment" bars in close proximity too, from what I've heard lol  )

Yesterday, the NASCAR Hall of Fame open!

From Wikipedia:

NASCAR Hall of Fame NHOFLogo.jpg
Location 501 S College St
Charlotte, North Carolina
Broke ground January 2007
Opened May 11, 2010
Owner City of Charlotte
Operator Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority
Construction cost US $160 million
Architect Pei, Cobb, Freed and Partners

The NASCAR Hall of Fame honors drivers who have shown exceptional skill at NASCAR driving, all-time great crew chiefs and owners, and other major contributors to the sport. NASCAR committed itself to building a Hall of Fame and on March 6, 2006, the city of Charlotte, North Carolina was selected as the location. Ground was broken for the $160 million facility on January 26, 2007 and it officially opened on May 11, 2010,[1] with the inaugural class to be inducted the day following NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race XXVI. The new Hall of Fame brings hundreds of jobs and an increase in tourism to Charlotte. In addition to the Hall of Fame, the NASCAR Plaza, a 20-story office building, opened in May, 2009. The 390,000-square-foot (36,000 m2) structure serves as the home of Hall of Fame-related offices, NASCAR Digital Media, and their licensing division. Other tenants include the Charlotte Regional Partnership and Lauth Property Group. Richard Petty and Dale Inman helped unveil the first artifact at the Hall of Fame, which was the Plymouth Belvedere that Petty drove to 27 wins in 1967.[2]

The City of Charlotte was responsible for the construction of the building and will own the NASCAR Hall of Fame. However, it is operated by the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority. Winston Kelley is the NASCAR Hall of Fame Executive Director. Internationally renowned Pei, Cobb, Freed & Partners is leading the design effort. Little Diversified Architectural Consulting based in Charlotte, NC is the local architectural firm overseeing many aspects of design and construction of the project. Engineering and Fabrication of the stainless steel möbius which wraps around the structure was completed by Zahner, of Kansas City. Exhibition design is by Ralph Appelbaum Associates, and exhibition lighting by Technical Artistry. Site excavation and grading services commenced on May 21, 2007.

Hope everyone got a change to see the opening on the news or read about it.

This will be on our schedule to visit for MVVIII

Its time to start re-thinking about coming to MVVIII if you have not decided as yet.

Hope to see a lot of folks I need to place names to faces. like so many of us enjoy doing.

Marauderville VIII Theme

Its not unique its called the Eighth,
For this Marauderville is with fate,
NASCAR now has their five,
We know however, the Marauder is still alive

So don’t be late,
Cause you will be in hate-
For there is fun
Found under those buns!

We will travel the lands
Of the Carolinas in Black, Silver,
Dark Toreador and Blue,
So you can enjoy
Having been there too

Each day will bring,
A unique new thing,
You haven’t seen
Since you were a teen

Your amazement of the days shoots,
Will bring you to want morrow,
But at the end of the days event,
You will breath a relief of knowing , there is a tomorrow

Don’t say it will end,
Cause it is for us kin,
That takes us from one to one another,
Till we meet again.

Don’t be a stranger to each other,
You know we are the same brother,
Wanting to know and feel the car,
With you and others the answer is not far

So Come on down to Charlotte this year-
You have heard the old saying- wish I’d been there-
so don’t despair,

We will say for sure
on you leave without fear,
Ya’ll come back now, Ya’ll hear!!

A point of clarification for the folks registering for MV8 through eventbrite:

There are several Thursday and Friday events that don't have dollar amounts assigned to them on the "ticket information" registration webpage. In an effort to keep registration fees as low as possible this year, we have some activities set up as "pay-as-you-go" events.

These are some things that you may or may not wish to do, and as such, we didn't want to include them in the registration fee and inflate the costs.

If you do wish to participate, please make sure you enter the number attending in the "Qty" field on the registration webpage; we need to get an accurate headcount of participants so that the venues can accommodate our group.

Below are the "pay-as-you-go" events, a listing of what's included in the fee, and the cost for each event:

Thursday Morning Cruise to Old Stone Winery - Salisbury, NC: Winery tour and tasting. Cost is $10 per person, payable by cash, check or money order at the MV8 Registration table in Charlotte. The event will include a tour of the winery vineyards, a tour of the winery, and a private tasting of 8 wines (a mix of Old Stone's dry & sweet, red & white wines), plus a souvenir wine glass.

Thursday lunch at Lexington, BBQ, Lexington, NC: After the winery tour, we'll stop for lunch at the renowned Lexington BBQ. Lunch costs range from $4.00 to $16.00 per person, and are payable directly to the restaurant.

Thursday Afternoon cruise to Richard Childress Racing Museum and Shops - Welcome, NC: Tour of the Richard Childress Racing Museum and shops. Cost is $10 per adult, and $8 for seniors, payable by cash, check or money order at the MV8 Registration table in Charlotte. The self-guided tour includes over 45 race vehicles, a large display of Dale Earnhardt #3 cars, and numerous video displays. We will also be provided with an overview of the RCR shops.

Friday Night Drag Racing at Jefferson Pageland Dragway: Friday night grudge racing with special accommodations for our Marauders. Costs are $15.00 for racers and $7.00 for spectators, or $20.00 per carload, up to 5 people. Tickets are purchased at the gate.

Thursday morn we are all pulling out early and you will miss us--check schedule below---its better to get in Wed. evening, but you might catch the car wash ....

Sorry, but not reading through the last two hundred posts:

Do We really need to print out 21 pages of tickets from Event-brite?

What's the count up to? Attendees/Cars?

We'll see y'all Thursday morning, unless someone's still up late the night before. We're leaving northern OH after work Wednesday...

YES! You must print out ALL 21 pages and bring it with you, or you will be denied admittance, and will be assessed a large fine!

:jk:

Everything's taken care of, just make sure you have cash, check, or money order to pay for any of the events you've registered for that aren't included in the registration fee (extra t-shirts, Old Stone Winery Tour, RCR Museum). We'll be collecting the money at the registration table and will make a single group payment at each venue to streamline the admission process.

Check out this thread for cost of each event:

Of course, you can always PM me for an update on what you owe, but that will entail a $10.00 processing and response fee...http://www.bloodydecks.com/forums/images/smilies/nutkick.gif ------> :D
