View Full Version : Pulley adjustable on shaft

I've had my Paxton Novi S/C on and off the car several times, over the past three years, changing belts and/or doing repairs but I never thought to look and see if the pulley can be adjusted on the shaft.

I know the pulley can be changed but is it adjustable on the shaft?

My new belt is one rib off the pulley. My mechanic noticed the old belt was also one rib off the pulley when he was doing fuel pressure checks last year.

I've reseated the belt and but after a few hours it moves toward the block by one rib. None of the other pulley's are adjustable and all seem to be mounted correctly and not binding. When Looking at the arrangement all seems OK. Hum-mm? :confused:

Washers my good man. If all the other pulleys are lined up together and the blower pulley is off you can add washers or spacers depending on the word you like better

Either the pulley is on backwards or the bracket is not fully seated against the timing cover.

The bracket is fully seated against the cover and washers/spacers are not the answer since the pulley needs to go forward on the shaft (toward the block) not away from the block.

This weekend is supposed to be nice so I'll see if the pulley can be "moved" forward on the shaft.

that's what I'm getting at you'd add the spacer before the pulley to move it out on the shaft towards the motor. However, if everything lined up right before with no adjustment it's kinda odd that it would be off with no other changes

No it cant be 'moved' and you need an impact gun just to get the 9/16" bolt off.

I bet its on backwards. No Marauder with a Vortech or Paxton has ever had belt alignment issues with the stock 6 rib setup.

Thanks Zack, that settles it.

I'll live with it till next belt change or until my mech son comes home from Afghanistan in Feb 011.

I'll have the members look at it in Louisville.

Doesn't seem to be causeing any performance issues, still boosting at proper level vs RPM.

does anyone know if any of these blower brackets have cracked or warped over time? this would certainly throw your alingment out of wack?

you shouldn't shim the blower pulley, something is out of alignment, or causing the belt to move out of alignment, I had a tensioner on my modfox went bad causing my belts to jump, after 2 belts, I re check everything and found the tensioner was the problem.

I'm envisioning the tensioner wheel is "bouncing" enough to cause the belt to slacken and jump the pulley ribs on the SC. Is that what you mean?

Oh dear. The edges of a grooved pulley can act as a razor blade and destroy the entire belt in a split second.
Just remember what your water pump and PS pump run off of next time you say 'I can live with it'
