Hey fellas, wondering if you could help me out. My buddy has a 1988 Ford Ranger with the 2.3 I-4 and Automatic transmission. He got hit on the front right corner of the truck and parked it at his house. It sat for 2 weeks and ran fine when he parked it, and he went out to try to start it and nothing happened. It cranked, but wouldnt catch. He replaced the Fuel pump because he didnt think it was getting any fuel and it still isnt starting, so i told him i'd ask around before he throws any more money at the problem. Anybody know what could be wrong or have any suggestions?

First i"d check the fuel pump reset button,
then i"d test the ignition control moduale.

They had fuel resets in 1988????

Check for spark as well... If an engine cranks it is either fuel or spark as I'm sure you know. I'd pull a spark plug and rest it on the motor to see if a spark is being genereated at the plugs. Not really sure if 1988's had carbs or not or if they had coil packs or distributors...

Reset should be located on drivers side firewall inside cab IIRC.

If those 2 check out take a look at the rubber band (timing belt) to see if it's broken.
