I took my 04 Marauder to the dealer to have an OEM spoiler put on and they told me "no problem we can do that". I even emphasized OEM so that we were all on the same page. Well I go to pick it up today and they installed a spoiler that has a tail light in it and is nothing like OEM. The thing has two mounting points on top of the lid, sticks up about 3" and it wraps around the trunk lid. I flipped:mad2: he said that after installing it they realized that is wasn't the factory one. "We can change it he says". Ya you can but what about the holes you drilled into the trunk. :mad2:HE WANTS TO PATCH THEM!!!!:awe: Well after a nice little sit down talk :bop:they agreed that they will have to replace the truck lid and install the correct one. The problem with that is he wants to use a "used" lid he doesn't want to put a new one that is painted cause the new paint will not match the old paint on the car, so he wants to buff the old one! What should I do, do I demand a new one with a complete car buff so it all matches?

If you did it yourself I'd say not to worry but since they did not do what you asked them to do then they should replace it with a new deck lid. Or have them get a used lid, you inspect it first and then have them repaint it so it matches.

I would say, accept used trunk lid with complete, super duper detail of exterior paint, front to back, top to bottom to make up for such a stupid, idiotic mistake. If no match, then painting gets involved.

^^^^ I second that!!^^^ Thats why I try to all my own work. Do not accept anything or sign anything until you are 100% happy. Try to get everything in writing too!!!

Did you go to a Ford dealer?? If you did that's some dumbazz BS. I'd be angry also without a doubt!

Either way your current trunk or a newish trunk lid would have to be painted and clear coated. I would get another trunk lid.

Mark the old lid in an inconspicuous area so you know whether they pull a fast one.

Or find the serial number.

I mean the spoiler would look good if you were into none factory, but I specifically said factory. Its a black 04 and there were only like what 1200 made so I want to keep it as stock looking as possible. I also like the low profile of the OEM. No sorry I didn't get any pics, and if I did I would have to learn how to post them. I thought about marking it but it is a good idea to check the SS# like tbone said. Where is the SS# on the trunk lid?

First you gotta get control of your emotions because cool heads always prevail. Give them your concerns and be persistant, then write a letter to both the owner of the dealership and one to Ford. The pen is MIGHTY in these situations... Good Luck!

My buddy was close to the dealer and I had him take a pic with his phone. Hope this works.:o I'm not as mad as I guess I'm coming across. I'm mad but I kept my cool:cool: at the dealer.

That kinda looks like cruztaker's spoiler. Ask the dealer how much he wants for it, used.

That is beyond a simple mistake.Incompetence. Tell them you aren't driving a ricer. This is why dealers get a bad rap.I've had dealings with several here and there have been problems each time. How hard can it be?

ctrlraven

Take a sharpie and write some numbers & letters on the inside of the trunk in 2 or 3 different spots so they can't pull a fast one on you.

Yeah that a "OEM" wanna be ebay spoiler. Geez that think looks awful on there.

03-08-2010, 04:55 PM
And on top of that I am without my car for a couple days till they figure out what they going to do! Cause I told them to keep it till they fix it so there goes marking the lid. So does it have the SS# on it?

Yes on the original trunk lid of your car there should be a sticker on the bottom left hand side of the trunk like so. I believe it is tamper proof so if someone pulls it off its done for. You just need to write down the number/alpha serial that is on yours currently.

Always, always, always specify with a part/model number in writing, as what one man may perceive as an 'oem spoiler' may differ from another man's perception.

^^Ya^^ but a ford lincoln mercury dealer should know what is OEM for that car.

^^^^Yes, agreed, the dealer should.

But here we are with this thread after the dealer fu$%ed it up anyway.

There's no reason to settle for a used decklid. It's not your fault they installed the incorrect spoiler, and screwed up your trunk in the process. Why should you settle for anything but a new replacement?

As to the paint not matching....it's black. straight black. If they can't get that to match, maybe they should get out of the business.

Is it just me or wasn't that an OEM option spoiler??? I thought there was TWO choices, just nobody ever, except a few went with the other version?

Wow....serious deja-vu...

I ended up taking a company to court over the very, exact, to the tee, same story about 6 years ago.
However, my installer put it 6" in and off the rear deck edge. It looked effing rediculous.
The thread is buried here in thearchives somewhere.

The owner of the establishment turned out to be a major player in Cleveland with money coming out his arse...
I basically won after representing myself in small claims court and I ended up settling for patching, repainting, and the re-installation of a spoiler. I had it in the settlement to guarantee the paintwork for life.

Worked out, still looks good, and for the most part I have replaced most of the brain cells that stressed out of my head over that fiasco.

I was subsequently banned from that establishment.

F-them.

I flip that store off everytime I drive by it, and have for years.

EDIT:
Your story gets even freakier as I read through all the posts....

The spoiler they installed is indeed aftermarket.
It's called "The Avalon", and was sold by a company in the mid-west and originally marketed to the Sable/Taurus owners.
Over time, their website updated and it was also expressed to fit Marauder.
Great company, and a great bunch of folks.
Their paint work was right on the money.

I was actually the first on this site in 2003 to have this Avalon installed.
Several other members over time also took this route.

This is definately a personal liking.
One either loves, or leaves, the pedestal spoiler.

Here is mine:

Yeah its a universal "oem" spoiler. Actually the real OEM spoiler is a Rear Trunk Lid Spoiler as it's called.

Check the part number
2W7Z-5444210-AAB I believe this is the primed and black painted spoiler.

2W7Z-5444210-AAA is the primed unpainted spoiler.

An easy way to get one is to search up Crown Vic spoiler on ebay.

But I hate this spoiler on our cars

I wanted a spoiler at first ..... I am happy that I do not have one now.

Good luck

Actually, I don't mind that spoiler at all. It's similar to the old wing style spoilers.
I'd just demand a partial refund and keep it.
I have the OEM spoiler. I like it, but it's not the ultimate either.

The previous suggestion to leave the aftermarket spoiler on and ask for a discount appeals to me. The orginal OEM spoiler get's lost on the car IMO.

I like the pedesal version best, I also like Lambo doors.

I'm not a big fan of it. For some reason I like the factory spoiler a lot. Well the dealer said they found a wrecked black car somewhere and it has a factory spoiler on it. Its supposed to come in today so we'll see.
