Was there a TSB regarding the rear axle?

Normally when I visit an enthusiast website for some vehicle, the threads are generally clogged with posts about people having this or that problem. I've went through many of the older threads as well as the current ones, and i'm glad to find that there don't seem to be many problem area's with the Marauder and that it appears to be a really solid vehicle!

Just got my new headlights today. My local L/M dealer refused to replace them stating " there was not enough moisture in them". Have a friend at a Ford dealership who stated that is:bs: and immediately ordered me two new ones which were installed today. The Mercury dealer had the service message and is telling all Mercury owners " that is the way it is" which is a load of crap.

Outside of paint issues it has been a very solid car!

Out of curiosity, what kind of paint issues are people seeing on their MM's? Do these issues mostly affect the early 03's, or will they potentially affect the 04's as well?

There is, but it isn't Marauder specific, even though it includes the Marauder. When your dealer enters your VIN, this one usually won't come up

My dealer at Premier L/M told me our MM headlights would only be replaced if they were full of water, not just a"moisture condition". I`ve also noticed my moulding around the r/headlight coming loose-maybe this is where the moisture enters.:mad2:

Lot's of guys on here have had their headlights replaced for those loose moldings. Find another dealer, or go back and insist that they be replaced.

Can we get a writeup in full on that erratic headlight operation in auto-lamp mode? I noticed that the lights go on and off in the middle of the day when it is cloudy out, when in auto mode. I don't drive it that way, the wife does. It makes me wonder if people in front of her think that she is trying to get their attention. What a pain.

Hmmmm how hard would it be to fill a headlight with extra moisture (SP)

Went to another dealer and he said :bs: and ordered me a new set.:D

Does anyone know if there is a Ford Technical Service Bulletin for the Fuel Gauge system problem on the 03MY? I don't find a Ford TSB that correlates to the TSB # listed from the NHTSA site. I would appreciate the Ford TSB in its entirety for me to hand to the service technician when I take it in. (One less thing for them to screw up). Thanks if anyone has it.

Just tell them that the fuel guage reads too low after filling up. Their computer should be able to relate that to the special service bulletin or message. I brought mine in, stated the problem, and they came up with the parts to order for me and instructed me to bring it in almost empty. Well, that tank will have 5 gallons in it if the guage reads empty, due to this problem. I also mentioned the headlamp erratic operation in autolamp mode, and they changed the lighting control module the same day! Sure enough, the headlamps now stay off in the daylight hours, but turn on when it is actually getting to be dark.

PS: Dealerships don't like you to carry in printed out TSBs, hence my advice to make sure that you code your request with the proper catch phrase. If you look at the write-up and memorize the wording, and have them write those words down on the service request screen when dropping off your car, they will match up your request with the service message/bulletin.

Would someone be kind enough to explain exactly what gets replaced with the moisture in the headlight problem? (Assuming the dealer will do it under warranty).

The moulding around my right headlight is not snug and smooth and I think water gets in there, but I'd like to know exactly what the dealer should replace so that I don't walk in uninformed.

Thanks.

For moisture...they are not supposed *cough, cough* to replace it unless you have "standing water inside the lamp assembly even after the light has been illuminated for some time". This of course is the official line.

I had mine replaced back in July of '02 for the molding being away from the body line. I'd think you wanting it done for this reason would be a little easier to accomplish. It ALL depends on how accomodating and what depth of relationship you have with your S/M.

Tod nailed it....my dealer is all to familiar with moisture on every car they sell from vics to lincolns. They gladly replaced ours. Once without even asking during an oil change. 4 times on the LS, 2 times on the MM, and once on my former marquis.

Cruztaker....where did you buy yours? Mine is from Ganley L/M in Middleburg Heights.

The former Westside L/M in dead center of Akron, Ohio.
Now something something of Barberton.

I get service at the former Crossroads L/M Rockside, Independence.
Now Sunnyside. They kept their techs in the takeover, and it was a wise move.

16985 2003 CV/GM/MARAUDER/TOWN CAR - FUEL GAUGE DROPS OFF FULL QUICKLY/READS LOW Some Crown Vics/Grand Marqs/Marauders/Town Car vehicles may exhibit a fuel guage that comes off full too quickly or reads lower than the actualfuel level in the tank (electronic or analog cluster). To service, install revised fuel sending unit 2W1Z-9275-AB.

THIS IS RIGHT FROM A VIN OF A PROBLEM MARAUDER HERE IN THE SHOP, EXHIBITING THE SAME PROBLEM.

To the new york guys, what dealer are you using on the island? I'm having this problem with my MM and it be easier to go to someone who has dealt with this already. My dealer is in nj and to say the least they suck. thanks, reddog.

I went back once to have the oil changed and the headlights replaced due to moisture. They refused stating there wasn't enough moisture. So I wouldn't go there.:(
