I like the old body style. V-6 patrol cars suck.....http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-sad010.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)

I thought Chevy was going to use the same platform and body as the G8 and call it the Caprice Intercepter 6 liter V-8 rear wheel drive. I think it will win out. http://www.chevroletcapriceppv.com/ (http://www.chevroletcapriceppv.com/)

I'll wait for them to start coming out of service, pick one up with a good service warranty, deck it with lights and use it for a DD and Fire Dept vehicle.

In the video they mentioned another version that will be released later this year... a "utility" version...???
Maybe a longer wheelbase? ANy guesses?

If I had to guess, it would be a SUV based off the Explorer or Expedition platform. Unless its a crossover vehicle on the Taurus platform.

Anybody know what platform the new explorer is going to be on? If the P.I. and the utility version share some parts like the video states then perhaps the new Explorer is based on the current Taurus

The Explorer America will be a unibody on the taurus platform. Its set for a 2012 model

Yes sir..
FWD/AWD is gonna suck when it comes to repairs. Ford claims it'll have a better track record than the Vic ,LOL. For the first time in my life I actually prefer a Chevy over a Ford (RWD Caprice Vs. the "new" Ford PI) Chevy will have the upper hand on the police car market now. WTF Ford. I do love the new Taurus but we all know that a redesigned CV with the new 5.0 Cammer motor with the 6-Speed tranny from the F150/Explorers/Expedition's/etc would've made a far superior police car than a unibody wrong wheel driver.

We have to wait and see they supposely got there I ideas from police departments across the country. I dont think they just through it together. But this is going to get interesting:popcorn:

Chevy stopped the RWD Caprice and suffered enormously, and now appears to be going back to RWD V-8s. Ford profited enormously from this misstep, but seems to be poised to repeat it. I would hope Ford would have learned from this mistake.

I was thinking about that yesterday. In the mid to late 80's Chrysler corp had a big part of the police market with their Plymouth and Dodge rwd cars. They went to fwd and lost it.I know the fwd cars today are a lot better but is this what will happen at Ford?

Yeah, unit construction and FWD? This is sad. I dont understand how they can give so much credit to the CVPI and at the same time make such a radical change? I really dont think that the new V6's will ever take the beatings that the 4.6 did. Wouldnt you think that Ford's leadership figures were based on the fact that they offered a car that is really cheap to maintain and rarely requrires work? I couldnt imagine servicing a twin turbo awd interceptor! Watch Dodge run away with the segment!
