David will you never change, you continuously make these types of remarks, and this one this shows your complete lack of Knowledge on the DOHC, the Mark 8 was the first to have this motor and the older block are the ones you want to find a rebuild for a monster motor, this car weighs about the same as a Marauder you put the two side by side with the same gear same RWHP and the Mark 8 will win by sheer wind dynamics, the car even lowers it's self by 1" at 98 MPH to cut wind drag. The hood is all aluminum, they a classic and a aw some car, and you set there and say, there PUKE, I thought this was a diverse club every one like to do different things to there cars, that is great, but the majority of us here do not slam members for there choices, I could say some thing about your BABY BLUE valve covers, but you see that is where the deferences are. I respect every ones choices. I owned a 96 it made 568 RWHP and ran a consistant 11.2 at 128 mph. Full leather tilt cruise in trunk CD color matched roll cage.

you crack me up, i post my opinion on what the car looks like and you go into how it performs. post away about my blue valve covers i don't care, Ive had many people say they dont like them, its their right to do so. i had no intentions of getting into a pissing match with you and then you try to be clever and with a long come back on how "aw some" the performance is, which doesn't have anything to do with what i said.
PS, its AEROdynamics not "Wind dynamics"

I love those cars, especially the 97-98's with their lighting and those 10 spoke directionals on them. My only beef with them is I can't stand the dash design on them.

Dady likey likey!! I love those cars. I think they should have come from the factory with a little bit of a wider rim/tire combo.

There was a cream colored one at the Towers shop this past week , and it sure looked Purdy. But it does look like it's all hood, and very little fenders.

I've always wanted to drop a mark VIII motor into the crown vic..
What year is the best to look for, and how much money would I be looking at spending? I'd probably build it to the 400rwhp range, give or take
Dennis Reinhart
03-26-2010, 06:23 PM
Well I would go with either a 96 97 or 98 these are all EEC V cars the 96 has the old style intake so that would have to be changed the 97/98 has the TB coming out on the passenger side for a easy install.

Any idea what a fair price on one of these motors would be? And how much work/money would it take to produce some good numbers? (in a panther)

Drock (on cvn) has the nicest mark VIII (looks wise) I've ever seen. supercharged LSE I believe

This wass the cleanest 1998 I have ever seen with only 12 K on the clock it made 438 RWHP,

I have had 2 1998 Marks (still have the black one) and I have to say I think the Mark is much more comfortable on the open road, especially after 8-10 hours of seat time.
Parked next to each other I think the Mark is just sexy. The Marauder is just tough looking.
If my Mark had the same RWHP I would be hard pressed to choose one over the other.
That being said, my Mark is for sale after 6+ great years.

The Mark 8 came out of the same plant as my now dead 94 Cougar XR7.. superb materials & build quality. Kansas City did themselves proud.

I know of a 97 that is good for parts in Pompano Beach. From what I was told, the powertrain is fine but the body is not.

Tony (This M8's owner) was there the same day I was picking mine up. Cool dude. Hard-working student. There were a few adventures on the dyno - like a popped IC pipe. Dennis handled it all in stride.
There were some folks from a local car club Dennis sponsors there that day, too. Along with a youngster who, with his dad, does absolutely AMAZING upholstery! I'll tell ya, hangin at Dennis' shop is the embodiment of how 'car life' should be....
Hey Dennis, if you have that kid's name - the oil change in the Vic - from that Saturday - I'd love to contact him!
