I got an offer to trade my 65 Chevy for an 83 LTD. The guy told me it was a grandmas car so I would assume it's in good shape for it's age. 99,000 miles. Anything I should look for on this generation? Anything known to go out at 100K? We know the plastic intakes on modern CVs go out around 150K, just wondering if I should look for anything on this on other than the usual stuff.

Thanks!

Dont buy that car, or trade for it.

You need a car to match your mechanical aptitude...which means it needs a WARRANTY

Why does the truth hurt?

You want to look for something "newer" :)

I know, but I really dislike modern cars. The Panther is probably the only car I will let slide... that isn't built for performance.

i love box panthers BUT i have never owned a CFI 5.0 and i have heard that they are real dogs and full of little gremlins. look for an '86 - '91 if you like the box bodies. i have owned 3 ('87 grand marquis, '91 crown vic and currently an '87 2-door crown vic)

Dom,

If you know the person, go for it. I had an '89 Grand Marquis with the 5.0L at around 109k miles and the car ran near perfect. I knew the original owner, he was an elderly chap and he babied all 12 vehicles he had in his garage, which included a 1968 Toyota Land Cruiser and a '69 Caddy, which were both purchased new [by him] and had under 10k miles on each. The GM was his daily driver.

I'm pretty sure that '83 Vic is only slightly more modern than your '65 Chevy. If you can't fix the '65, you'll be just as screwed on the '83.

Also, unless Elvis owned it, that CV is worth $800 tops (on a good day).

Elvis Presley didn't make it to 1983. :(

Elvis Hitler and Elvis Costello are still kickin' it.

4 I believe, but I left a message saying I need a newer car or cash. He hasn't called back.
