How long did your new car last?

This question is probably better answered by some people a few years older than me. I wanted to know how long a previous new car (besides the Marauder if you bought it new) has lasted. So far mine is at 155,000 miles, but since the engine was changed I don't think I can count it as 155,000 miles.

If you bought a car new and daily drove it, when did it last until? What brand, model, year?

I know some people will drive their cars for 20 years until the tires fall off. Are you one of them?

This cannot be answered by anyone who bought a car used unless it was from a family member who bought it new.

1990 GMC Sierra P'up 160K. Finally rusted itself away, which was a shame cause the motor was still strong. It went to truck heaven in 2007

Sounds like you thought about a Frontier. Nice little truck. To small for me though. I didn't originally go out to buy a Titan. I didn't think I could afford one. I was looking at a Ford F-250. But when I started putting options on the Ford its $$$ went up fast. On a lark one Sat we went to look at a gold colored F-250 and there was a Titan in the same lot (Megadealership). We went over to scope it out. The Ford I wanted with options still had fewer goodies than a standard Titan and the Titan was less money.. So now the T lives in the driveway, has been very reliable. Gets better gas mileage than the GMC ever did and I can haul a ton(literally) of stuff. And its almost as fast as Doomies ride

1994 TBird 4.6 LX, purchased new, still have it at the 146,000 mile mark

Not prurchased new, but my 64 Galaxie was purchased in 1969 with 46,000 miles. Odometer is now at 211,000 miles.

I bought a new Volvo 240 GL in 1988, drove it till last December, bought the used Marauder with 59,000, and gave the Volvo to my 16 year old son......still going... 294,000 miles.

Todays cars will run much longer than those from 30 or 40 years ago. It's easy to put multiple hundreds of thousands of miles on one. My dad has an 03 Dodge 3500 crew cab dually that he uses for work. He and my brother have business moving portable buildings, some of them really large. That truck has right at 350K on it, still on the original Cummins 5.9L engine. They've got one of the multiple position tuners on it and run it at the second to lowest hp increase, which is supposed to be 60hp. The truck gets ridiculously good fuel mileage, like 22 to 24 unloaded on the highway. The way they treat it, I'm surprised it still runs. It has been beat to hell, but it keeps on going. They've put a new clutch in it twice, but it just keeps going and going.

My last car a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis 4.6L 2valve had 136,000 miles on the clock when I gave it to my brother. The car now has apx 172,000 and still run strong.

If you change the oil regularly and never let it get too hot todays cars are probably good for at least 250k miles or so. UV rays will eat the dashboard and all those cheap plastic grommets/connectors will break but mechanically the car will run. Actually, the only car I ever wore out was my 73 Torino. Not counting my 67 GTO that I put megabucks in, the longest lasting car I ever owned was my 82 Z28 I bought new and drove til I traded it on my 90 Firebird.

Two weeks after I was born my dad bought a new Chrysler Newport for cheap because it had been built for the OPP but some maroon at the factory punched the wrong button and put a 318 in it instead of the 360. So Chrysler replaced the vinyl with cloth seats and sold them cheap to dealers as demo's. My dad bought one and 20 years later he and I drove it to the scrap yard with 465k on it. Original motor, third trans. She was just finally too tired. IIRC the junkyard guy used it as a demo derby car that year before she finally met her maker. Talk chit about Chrysler all you want, but that was one helluva car.:beer:

I've never owned a new vehicle, but I still have my first truck, 4-speed manual 1988 F-250 custom flatbed with a 300 Inline. 250K miles and still going strong! I bought her with just under 100K

My first car was a somewhat rare '94 light blue Crown Victoria LX that I bought with 97K miles and drove the crap out of it for almost 6yrs before I traded her in on my Marauder. The odometer read 170K at the time, and it was starting to have something go out about every other week.

Non-turbo, still has its original 2.3L I-4 SOHC motor and automatic transmission (rebuilt once). Simply put, I am neurotic about the maintenance on it and all my vehicles. It's not uncommon, we even have a Volvo High-Mileage Club and one member has approximately 2,600,000 miles (that's two-million) on his '66 P1800. I should be getting my 500,000 mile grille badge in a couple of months.

Bought it brand new While in the Army.

Between the day I picked it up and then left it in the middle of thier show room @ the end I had a stack of repairs that might have made the tire's flat if they were all in the car @ the same time.

Busted a ball joint on the highway and droped the tire on the ground almost fliped the car over.

Fuel injection system left me stranded a total of 8 times.

Tranny went @ 3,000 mile's

Shall I go on?

The dealership refused to take it back and refund the money so I drove it into the show room late @ night and left a note saying compliments of the Army!

Of course filed a stolen car report first and made sure there were no finger prints to be found.
