Well, I went down to SLP (Street Legal Performance) yesterday and purchased two "Shotgun Resonators". These are the very units used in SLP's LoudMouth exhaust systems for Camaros and Trans Ams. They are the ONLY exhaust systems that I have ever heard that correctly duplicate that elusive "classic muscle car" sound.
Today I woke up early and drove down to my local exhaust shop. The Dynomax mufflers came off quick and easy because they had only been on for 25 days or so. We added two short slight bends to each end of the muffler (it's a round case, center/center design... so we had to make it fit the "center in / offset out" pipes).
Started her up and my heart almost stopped... it sounds fantastic. It has the classic "pop-pop-pop" sound from 1500 rpm all the way up to about 5000 rpm. BAD AS HELL!! I'm sooo happy right now.

AWESOME! That's the exact f*****g sound I've been looking, and looking, and looking for! Are there really no more of those SLP resonators anywhere?

Congrats!! Glad to hear the good news. Would like to be able to hear them someday. If I am ever in the neighborhood will look you up! Do they help at all with HP or TQ or do they just improve sound?? Go out and enjoy and smoke some Ricers for me!!

Well, the 2.5" in/out resonators are SLP part #31555. They were designed as a universal muffler to be used only in street rod applications. Because the market for their street rod parts has dwindled, SLP stopped producing them. My salesman, Kevin, stated that they only had three left in that size... and I bought two of those three.
SLP still makes the mufflers in their facility here in NJ, but only as a part of their exhaust systems. They weld the muffler directly to the exhuast pipes... there are no slip connectors on either end. If you call and REALLY haggle them, I'm sure they'll slap a set together for you. I believe there are other sizes still available, but 2.5" was what I wanted.
Do they help at all with HP or TQ or do they just improve sound??
Dunno yet. It's pretty cold here. My car is running awesome. I'm headed to the track tonight so we'll see what she puts down.

Hmm - I'm on the verge of buying a MM and new mufflers would be first on my list of mods.
FWIW - if you folks haven't seen these here's a very interesting option:

Basically a dash controlled switch (or 2 for dual exhaust) that would let you flip between stock exhaust and NO mufflers.
For guys like me that do extended road trips (or have clients in the car) its an interesting alternative.

I sold a car last summer to a guy that had one of these installed on his car.
When he pulled up to my house his car sounded Awesome. I asked how he could legally get away with that (and if it drove him nuts with his car being that loud), and he hit the switch and turned it off.
It was pretty darn cool.
I can't vouch for how well it would stand up to salt/snow/crap that would happen in northern climates.
You can throw a small downpipe on it that would protect it from the elements.
Regardless, if you could get say, two years, out of it, it would be well worth the money (IMHO).
Sitting at a light next to a rice rocket, and opening up a full straightpipe exhaust would scare the crap out of one of those coffee can muffer kids....
(BTW - I own a rice rocket so I can make that statement and still be politically correct)
Sorry if I hijacked this thread -

Well, I had the MM at the track all night. New record for me: 13.75 @ 100.43 mph. I had the driverside headlight removed to create a poor-man's ram-air through the airbox snorkel. I was spinning a lot off the line, though... I think I could've gone 13.6's with grip.
Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, at the track was drooling over my MM. I love being the only one there with one. Then I stunned them all with consistent 13.7's. The difference in exhaust note is amazing. I love it and so did everyone else. They all kept asking me where they could get a set of the mufflers. I replied, "YOU CAN'T!!! MUAWHAHAHAHAHA!!!"
