St. Thomas, Canada I believe.
I am very surprised that there is not self adhesive plastic protecting the hood, roof and trunk from acid rain.

That picture was posted somewhere else with a caption that it was the Canadian spec Marauders prior to shipment...

Yes, that is at the St. Thomas assembly plant. A bunch of us (CVN ppl) went to visit the plant last june...they were starting to build the first Marauders. Very interesting visit. We are going next year again, on June 13th...

WOW!! I wonder how many mercurymarauder.net members' cars in that pic?? Since my car was built early June, I'd bet my car is there somewhere.

I know, mine would be too! I think we need to ask the good people of St. Thomas to identify very car in that picture for us! :D
As for the "wrapping" of new cars, that has trailed off to merely out of country vehicles. All in the name of saving $$$. However, those cars up there have the foam door gaurds and some sort of cardboard covering for the tips.

Mtl cv,
Did they give tours?
Do you need to give advanced notice?

Yes they give tours, for free. If I remember correctly, you have to be a minimum of 5 ppl & they will set you up. The tours are done by retired employees of STAP. They were great...like I said, it's great to see how your car was built. We were all exited to see Marauders...they were rare back then.
If you are interested, you could join us there next june. Let me find the post on CVN about that...I'll post it later. We are going to the St.Thomas dragway after the tour.
And for those worrying about the cars staying there...don't worry. They don't stay there very long. All the cars made @ STAP are ordered...so when they are built, they ship. Everything is in just in time, almost no stocks. They come out at the rate of 1 per minute (that includes CrownVics, GrandMarquis, Marauders, Taxis, Police...).
The first night I arrived at St.Thomas the day before the tour, I looked at the lot & there was a bunch of Marauders...the day after they were gone (or moved).

No need for the plastic. As one of the owners of the early (June 02) build cars, I can attest that they needed no acid rain, bird poop, or any other foreign substance to screw up the paint on the cars. The paint was already screwed up by the time it went out the door.

Looks like they had some type of coating on the tailpipes.

Yeah, they looked to be wrapped in brown paper and taped. Some are already coming loose and hanging off.

I worked at the Talbotville (St.Thomas) plant for a little over a year back in 2004. My dad just retired after 30 years as a foreman at the plant. Let me know what date you are planning and I'll come out and I might be able to arrange something other than free donuts and coffee. And your right the rate is exactly 53 seconds.
