I know that there aren't very many of you, (if any at all) who will be running out to purchase one of these very expensive cars, but incase there is anyone interested, here it is. The following info is according to a Ford salesman who works at a dealer that's located in an afluent town in my homestate. This salesman was also at the unveiling of the very first actual production 2005 Ford GT at a dealer somewhere in California.
The Ford GT will only be produced for three years. Of those three years, 1500 of them will be produced per year(4500 cars for the three year total). For each year, the first 100 cars will go to the 100 dealers who are called the "Presidence Select" dealers. There are only 100 of these dealers nationwide, and thse 100 dealers will be the only ones who are gauranteed atleast one Ford GT for each of the three years production. The remaining 1400 Ford GT's per year will be distributed via a Lottery system. All the Ford dealers in the country will have their name entered in this lottery, and the 1400 dealers who are picked to receive one Ford GT will be notified and asked if they want one of these cars. At this point it looks like even the 1400 dealers who're picked each year will NOT even have a choice of what color their GT comes in. So it is still possible for someone to get a 2005 Ford GT, but it's going to take some Luck as well as a good piece of change since there's going to be some dealer price gouging taking place because of the high demand, and abbreviated production of these cars. Some dealers are taking deposites, and some will not take them, but still will place your name on a list. But even if you were to leave a big deposit w/a Ford dealer, they cannot gaurantee you that they will even be one of the 1400 dealers who will get a GT. Nor can they tell you what color it will be even if they do get one. So that's the scoop. I wish that I can find out which dealers are among these so called 100 "Presidence Elect" but I've attempted to find out w/out any success. My assumption is that they're the 100 dealers in the country who accomplished the highest revenue in sales over the past year. I have obtained some inside info as to what strategy to use concerning which dealer to leave a deposite with, but I'm not posting that on here. And besides, it's still going to take some luck since there are many more than 1500 Ford dealers in the country.

Sorry according to what I've read and heard on the floor the GTs are a first come first served item. According to Ford World (a mag for Ford employees), 1000 have been sold already. There was also no mention of only a three year production run. If it sells they'll build em till the cows come home...

you know something that none of the 8 dealers that I've spoken to across the country do, nor the Ford customer service people either.
I say this w/no sarcasm intended, but this is an honest question on my part: So if 1000 Ford GT's have been sold already, then why is it that all of the eight dealers that I've spoken to told me that they will NOT be available until late spring of 2004? And how is it that many dealers are taking $2000 deposites from customers to place their names on a waiting list, and at the same time inform the people who leave their deposit that they cannot even gaurantee that they can even get one GT?? And last but not least, how can Ford sell 1000 cars if they haven't even come up w/a MSRP for that car yet? If you work for a dealer, and these cars are available now, then I guess I can call you if I want one. Right? And that's ofcourse provided that you can also explain to me why the Ford GT website doesn't list a price for these cars yet either.
