Hello how are you all doing? Great I hope. Well here's the problem. My dad has a 99cvpi. The car accelerates good from take off but for some reason at about 60 mph and up this car starts bogging and losing power with no check engine light. We've changed the spark plugs, changed the computer, and even put in another motor. We took it to a Ford dealership and they couldn't find anything. I guess its pretty bad when the Ford dealership can't figure out the problem. Its getting gas good and the fuel pressure is good too. Only things that haven't been changed yet are the ignition coil packs but I don't see how they would keep the car from running good at 60mph. :help:

Just while it is sitting or also while you are driving down the road?

Some sort of restriction, possibly air filter.

Take it to a dyno shop so you can see what is happening as you bring it up to the speed where it is bogging down on you.
Could be the altinator is cutting out @ higher RPM's and could lead loss of spark due to it.

Thanks guys I'll check out the air filter and the alternator tomorrow. The alternator is making a weird high pitched noise but its charging though.

Voltage maybe but is it putting out enough amps to handle it all? A strainge noise comming from it maybe an indication of a problem on that end.

You changed the motor? lol

I'm no mechanic but I have 01 CVPI that was having the same issue, never threw a CEL once. I was told by the guy I bought it from that one or two COPs would need to be replaced . I changed all 8 COPs and its being running strong every since.

I tried the alternator in a grand marquis. There was no noise and the car performed excellent. So hopefully the problem has been solved. Thanks everyone your input is greatly appreciated.

Just a sugestion take it by a shop and have the altinator load tested to make sure the out put is where it should be seeing it is a used one. I am sure you do not want to run into this again.

Tranny problem? Not the CBT kind of tranny, the 4-speed automatic kind of tranny. Torque converter lockup problem?

If the DPFE sensor has never been changed, it is probably bad but I doubt it is causing your problems.

Are you sure this is not the normal super crappy powerband of the crown vic? From 50-60 on the freeway in my 04 the throttle response is garbage, it sounds like the car is just chugging. I always thought it was just overdrive..

Are you sure the ABS is not applying the brakes?

He put an altinator on from his Grand Marquies and the problem stoped and the car is running fine now.

Wasn't enough amps to run the car comming out of the old altinator. It was going bad.
