Knees bent, feet flat on the floor. Although, I know that a chiropractor told a couple friends of mine that's actually a better way to do them (sit-ups). A lot less unnecessary stress on your lower back and less back fatigue. This allows you better technique for more reps. The object is to strengthen the lower abs and not hurt your back.

I just kicked my own butt today. Two hours on the treadmill and 600 sit-ups. It consisted of a lotta farting.
