Well, after doing some research on picking out the right synthetic oil for my MM. I was going to do 5w30. But at the shop, the forman told me they have 0w20 which is designed for the 5w20 applications. I was shocked to see this because i've never heard of this. I asked the guy to save me a bottle so i can post pics of this for you guys. It looks like Mobile one finally suits our needs in accordance to warranty concerns! There is even a stamp of the bottle that reads" Recommended for Ford and Honda 5w-20 service!"
Hope this helps you guys out!
Frank

Frank - I see the 0w20 Mobil One is recommended by Mobil Oil Co. for Ford applications. But is it recommended by Ford Motor Co. as well?

This topic came up early--As soon as the MM was released. Steve held a town hall chat on Edmunds.com and said NO to synthetic on the stock Marauder Engine.

Unless Steve or Greg retract that statement, then I'll continue to use regular oil.

Note that I have used synthetic in my Tbird for nearly 4-years.

Found his quote:

stevencory1: Do you suggest the synthetic type oil and when should I add it mileage-wise?

steve_babcock: Greg says there's no reason to use synthetic. Follow your owner's manual for fluids and service intervals. We don't recommend synthetics, sometimes they weep through the seals. There's no reason with the modern electronics to use synthetics."

Here is link to entire chat. Really pumped me up back in June of 2002.

Maybe I'm off on this, but didn't I see some reference to Steve Babcock liking Mobil 1 5W30, as noted by someone who attended the Trilogy open house earlier this spring?

Triple,
My 2004 MM Owners Guide recommends Motrocraft 5W-20 Premium Synthetic on page 206. However, footnote #6 on page 207 indicates synthetic or synthetic blend is NOT mandatory.
Today, I just picked up a carton of Mobil 1 SuperSyn 5W-30 Newer Vehicle Formula. I vasilated for 15 mimutes between Valvoline Synthetic 5W-20 and Mobil I 5W-30.
Guess I'll visit www.MOBIL1.com website before using.
What's your opinion of Purolator PureOne oil filters compared to Motorcraft FL-820-S ?

Greenville in upstate SC, I'm right between Atl and Charlotte.

woaface is a screen name I came up with a few years ago for AOL. wo stands for 'without' and the rest is 'a face'...Can't quite tell who I am on the internet, so I figured I was "with out a face". Pretty cheezy, but I like it.

Gilby, I haven't tried the PureOne filter, and even if I had, I probably wouldn't be in a position to tell you if I liked it or not. ;)

Oil is a tough topic of discussion... so many opinions and it can get very emotional. My take is... I stick with what has worked for me (as far as I know... maybe my WS6 or GTA will blow up at 250000 miles instead of 350000 miles had I gone with another oil, I'll never know). I think you'll be fine with the Mobil 1.

I am considering the 0W20 mentioned in this thread, if anything because winter is coming up and perhaps that 20 weight behavior at high temps might get me that extra bit of fuel economy? Who knows... (hey, maybe I would have gotten a 14.4 quarter-mile time instead of a 14.5 if I hadn't used 5W30! ;) ). In any case, I'm in a terrible money-saving mode right now, for an upcoming big purchase... so every penny counts... I think...

The aftermarket Motorcraft filter IS a Purolator PureOne element in a different can...the factory-installed filter is made by Champion Laboratories.

Out of curiosity, what do you guys think about the Mobil 1 0w40 viscosity for European vehicles? It's fully synthetic, formulated more for the extended drain intervals on many European vehicles, and really offers the ultimate viscosity spread as it has the benefit of a 0 weight when cold, and of a 40 weight when hot.

I'll probably be running Amsoil Series 2000 0w30 after I get my Marauder broken in when I finally recieve it later this week.

One small suggestion concerning the various oils. I would NOT switch to a lower rating other than 5W-30 unless you install a real AM oil pressure gauge and see for yourself the difference in oil pressure from these different oils. I had an oil change at the Ford dealer where I bought the MM just to keep up some type of business with them even though I would never have them do any repairs except when I could not get to Team Ford. The oil pressure at idle with 5W-20 is about 10-12# and 75# at 70 mph. The idle oil pressure seems low to me. I am going to have another oil change soon and will go back to Royal Purple with 5W-30 and see if it makes a difference. Just my $.02.

Wow. 10-12 psi, that's kind of low... I think. That's in the same territory as my '78 T/A back when it was overheating from a stuck gunked thermostat. As it is, those old blocks had a rule of thumb as far as safe oil pressure being 10 psi per 1000 RPM, with a minimum of 10 psi to begin with, at idle.

I'm seeing just under 25 psi at hot idle, I think. This, with Mobil 1 5W-30.
