"The fine was based upon timelines provided by Toyota that showed it had known about the sticky pedal defect at least since Sept. 29, 2009, when it issued repair procedures to distributors in 31 European countries to address complaints of sticking pedals, sudden increases in engine RPM and unexpected vehicle acceleration.
The documents also indicated that Toyota knew that owners in the U.S. had experienced the same problems."
"We just heard about these problems in Sept. of '09!"
Yeah right!
Too bad the fines are capped by law because 16 million is chump change to Toyota!
The fine should have been hundreds of millions to get their attention.

That's averages about a dollar for each faulty vehicle. That's a slap on the wrist - if you were fined 75 cents it would be just about the same affect that Toyota feels.

Each Congressman and Senator get a check for $26,114.65 for all their great work in uncovering and solving this problem. ;)
