My band recorded Johnny B. Goode last week, but the problem is... who hasn't? We have decided to finish it up, but are going to be looking for another song to cover. We are thinking Punk Rock this time. Here's what I was thinking:
Borstal Breakout -Sham 69
Personality Crisis -Johnny Thunders and The Heartbreaker's version
Real Wild Child -Joan Jett version
Bad Reputation -Joan Jett
Kissin' Cousin's -The Saints
Depression -Black Flag
Teenage Kicks -The Undertones
Endless Vacation -Ramones
BUZZBOMB -Dead Kennedys
Suggestions?
Like any of these?
Open to anything.

You'll never do a cover better than the original of the following songs...
Borstal Breakout -Sham 69
Personality Crisis -Johnny Thunders and The Heartbreaker's version
Kissin' Cousin's -The Saints
Depression -Black Flag
BUZZBOMB -Dead Kennedys
...so don't touch them, please. Especially the Saints (which is a cover, so you'd be covering a cover!). The songs are just too perfect already...no room for improvement.

For the record:
"Love Comes In Spurts" - Richard Hell & the Voidoids
"White Light/White Heat" - Velvet Underground
"All I Need Is Money" - Eddie and the Hot Rods
"Slash" - Tuff Darts
"Rise Above" - Black Flag
"Egg Raid On Mojo" - Beastie Boys
"What Gives" - Radio Birdman
Anything by Danzig-era Misfits
Not punk, but:
"Is It My Body?" - Alice Cooper
"I Don't Know What I Want" - Raspberries
"Don't Look Back" - Remains
Anything off the Nuggets compilations
'78-'83 Rolling Stones
Who am I kidding. Like I said before (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showpost.php?p=884785&postcount=17):
Oh who am I kidding, you're going to do plan C anyway, and not any of the songs mentioned here!!!

Do Gimme Gimme Gimme from Black Flag. (I think that's what it's called? All I know is they start the song with those words.)

One of my favorite songs we used to cover was Next to you by the Police. I know you don't normally consider the Police punk but this song fit right in with our early Clash, Sex Pistols and Gen X. Another favorite was Gen X Kleenex and King Rocker. Actually King Rocker may fit with your rock-a-billy style.
