Anyone here could maybe give me some input on a good OBD-1 scanner? I need one for my Dad's 57 Chevy that has a 1995 LT1 Corvette drivetrain. I've been looking at the Autoxray lineup any comments on their units?

You could use a scanner, but you should be able to use the Check Engine Light (if your conversion has one). OBD1 had two modes of output: a fast mode, for use by scanner tools, and a slow mode, for use without a scanner. The slow mode flashes the CEL, allowing you to write the codes down.
I did this on my 1994 MGM a few times, but never on a General Motors vehicle. I believe, however, flashing the CEL was part of the OBD1 standard.

Yeah it has a Light and an OBD1 port. It's got a custom wiring harness. Just wondering if anyone had experience with the Autoxray line of scanners.

What model and price are you looking at?
I see some of them can do both OBD1 and 2 on their web site.
Tell me the model number you want so I can get an idea what it does.

Those must be some old models because they are not even listing those numbers on their web site.
I see 4000 on up on the web site. But they still suport it and have an update download file for that model scanner.

Um I was looking @ the wrong thing. I was looking @ the normal scanners the model your looking @ is just a code reader nothing else.
Are you sure you want only a reader and not be able to actualy see the operation of the sensors and what not?

He's only looking to read a code just incase the CEL comes on. That's all.

If that is all he wants just to read codes then that one is fine. It will just give you nothing more than the actual code number and what it relates to.
And it does read both OBD1 and 2 codes and there is a download update for it as well on the web site.
No actual peramiter changes nor the ability to see any functional changes in any of the sensors.
But I just checked the price and it seems to be a lot of money for just a code reader.

This all depends on how far you want to go with OBD-1/2 data streams...
There is a cool software package that comes free with the cable.
You can do lots of stuff with it too.

I've had his product for almost 10 years now.
Still works like the day I bought it, and I've reinstalled it on at least 3 notebooks now.
Gonna try it on my netbook next...
