Someone posted a pic of an awesome '55 Chevy gasser. Well, here is over 70 pages of gasser pics, there are a few '55 Chevy's in there, too. Some of these are flat out badazz looking, some look dangerous as hell. Hope you have a few hours to kill.

Awesome! Thanks for the memories. In addition to Dad's '55 Chevy I really enjoyed the Henry J and Anglia gassers that used to come to the track every weekend. Too bad we didn't have any of the Willys gassers locally, I really liked those too...

lol, some of these cars are nothing but 2 gigantic back tires, 2 skinnies up front, and a hug motor surrounded by a little sheet metal. Crazy!

These guys got something started, they were the inspiration for the A/FX cars which evolved to today's Funny Cars. Very much like the Pro Mods running today, too.

PBR FTW. However, I don't think that's a real catch can, I think that's just a disguise for his beer. Notice the can cooler, why would you need to keep the temp in/out if it was a real catch can?

ok educate me. why are they called gassers?

'Gasser' was the name given to any and all cars that raced in the NHRA Gas Coupe and Sedan classes.
Classes were divided by lbs per cu. in. of engine displacement with 'A' being the top class, and 'H' being reserved for inlines and flatheads.
Briefly it was an anything goes type of racing. Engines had to run on gasoline. No methanol or other fuels of any kind.

There were 3 similar classes in the day. Altered, Gassers, and Modified Production. Then it went on down to the Super Stock and Stock classes.

Yup, lots of innovation among those three. Still some of the finest racing I ever watched, IMO.
