Just want to confirm that the correct MMX/MMC one to get from a used '99/00 CVPI from the slip yoke - pink, green and blue? Also is $175 a good price for one in good shape and would it be wise to have it checked out before having it installed?

I asked the guy at the shop that located the one for me if he can find another one. I'll let you know what he says.

Agree with babbage ... Have it checked-out, (re)balanced, and new U-joints installed.

Additional markings on the driveshaft .....

I checked with my Lincoln/Mercury parts dealer for the CVPI drive shaft for the 99/00 models, using the Ford part number. The dealer parts guys said it was an obsolete part, plus if he could get it, it would cost $1600. Geezum!
Any other used units out there ???

It's been obsolete since ~ 2003. And the price that s/he gave you was list ( wholesale would be ~ $1200 ).

Got mine from a CrownVic.us member ( Bonedriver ) back in 2004; used, (re)balanced ( to 10,000 RPM ), new U-joints, and shipping for $120.

I would check local junk yards as well - even car-parts.com

Those cars are still very common, even based on the year.

I've checked the local junk yards, most of them are too far gone to recover/repair. It will still all be cheaper than a new Dynotech or whatever brand.

When checking out Car-Parts.com I get this option.

Drive Shaft, Rear
Police pkg thru 4/05/99
Police pkg from 4/06/99
exc. thru 4/05/99
Which is the right one to select?

I have to ask because I seriously don't know, What makes them better than our OEM's?

Ford (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford) offers a Metal Matrix Composite (MMC) driveshaft (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driveshaft) upgrade. The MMC driveshaft is made of an aluminum matrix reinforced with boron carbide (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boron_carbide), allowing the critical speed of the driveshaft to be raised by reducing inertia. The MMC driveshaft has become a common modification for racers, allowing the top speed to be increased far beyond the safe operating speeds of a standard aluminum driveshaft. :burnout:
