Does anyone remember what the valet key limits functions too? Does it limit access to the trunk?

Planning a road trip to NO with a cave diving conference on the way. Trying to decide which vehicle to take.
I estimate about 2000-2200 miles of driving over 11-12 days.

Traveling with 10k+ worth of dive gear. I either need to secure it or leave it somewhere while in NO.
MM- maybe 19 mpg of premium, most secure, comfortable (other then the car itself getting stolen)
F250 - 14 mpg regular, less secure, as comforable as the MM, access to remote springs, PITA to drive in NO and expensive to park there.
FSVT -28-30 mpg premium, least secure, least comfortable, holds more and easier access then the MM.

The valet key works everything, but the locked glove box, and the locked trunk, (locked at the drivers door panel).

Take the MM! Test out the valet key function.

Correct, the valet key is thicker than the regular ignition key and it won't fit into the trunk lock, the trunk pushbutton lock in the door panel, or the glove box lock. I believe it fits the ignition and the door lock.

Some newer cars have valet keys that won't allow the radio to work and even limit the vehicle's top speed. We could only wish!

Not just valet keys...

The new Taurus has programmable keys.

You can limit top speed and radio volume.

I'd like to find a blank valet key. The regular keys are commonly sold on ebay but I've never seen one of the correct OEM valet keys listed.

Blank key would have to be programmed still - chip inside.

Of course you could make a really weak valet tune in your SCT (max mph 40) and spend 2 minutes uploading it before you handed car over...

I know. I have spare keys for both Marauders that I programmed after having them cut.

Not the point, nor the best way to do a valet tune.

The point is that my wife frequently loses things, so if she loses her valet key it would be nice to have a blank spare that I could have cut and then program it myself.

Best way to have a valet tune is to simply program a speed limiter into my tune and program that into one of the 4 tunes on my chip, then when I get out of the car I could simply set the hidden switch to the valet tune.

I could just turn my boost off with a few pushes of a button. Or set up a no boost profile in the boost controller and activate that one.
I wonder how low one can set the speed limiter with the Predator flasher?
It would be pretty funny to set the shift points at 3k and a speed limiter at 60 in a tune!

"Warning", When using the valet key, make sure the door keypad code is not accessible anywhere in the vehicle. If found the door keypad can still open the trunk even with the trunk button locked.

I had no idea the keypad can open the trunk. How did you make it do that?

I didn't get a valet key when I bought my MM. I suppose getting one from Ford is a major expense like everything else?

Heck, I've still never used that keypad. When I fixed my window, I wrote down the code, but I thought it should have been six digits, but there were only five on the label. I tried it, but it didn't work. Oh well.
