Hey guys,
I have been sitting back and looking at my marauder and trying to decide what to do with her. She has 105k and I don't want to say I have lost interest in her, but I am starting to have to put money into it and it is kind of getting annoying. As the time for her to be paid off approaches in the next year or so I am torn as to what to do with her. There are dents and scratches all over and a little rust showing by front driver's wheel and the front bumper has a tear in it from a hit and run trailer hitch, and the rear bumper has chipping off paint from a hit and run as well both in parking lots. She is in pretty tough shape but still shines up decent and get compliments! What should I do with her???

I was thinking either park the marauder and get another car and fix up the marauder and use it as a weekend whip or getting rid of the marauder and move on to something else. My main idea right now is getting a crown vic or grand marquis and parking the marauder. If not, I was thinking about getting rid of the marauder and getting something else. All input is welcome. I really hate that I let my marauder go, but that thing has a black cloud over it and just finds trouble!

Any input is greatly appreciated. Tips for fixing her up as well!

Thanks everyone! I really APPRECIATE IT!

Keep the Marauder fix up the minor dings and dents, buy something else to use as a DD.

Years from now, when somebody says, "Hey mister, that's a neat car, what is it?" You'll thank me for that advice. ;)

Take it out into a field and put a bullet through the engine block and put it out of its misery.

The point was that he didnt want to put much more money into it. You are talking putting close to $10k into the car.

I am thinking this could be my "toy" and just do it up almost like a restoration (yes it is that bad) and just use it as a project car and put a little money into it with each year.

I have a payment on my car at the moment which means I have full coverage, so I was thinking of putting in a claim for a bunch of the body issues and then anything after what they will cover, I will pick up myself... Anyone ever done this before?

How bad? Is it mechanically 100%? If you are getting tired of the car then it may not be worth it to you to invest a lot of time and money into it. You wouldn't want to get deep into the car and then just say the hell with it. I already been down that road with a past project and it was a expensive learning experience.

To be honest, the only reason I am tired of it is because it has gone down hill so quickly (like I said, black cloud)... When it was nice I loved it and would love it again if I could get it to 100 and use it SUMMERS ONLY! This thing has been through 3 New England winters with me and it shows! Mechanically she is in great shape, but would love to do some gears and a tune, etc. Just want to like the car again and have it be real nice. Show car even.

Just keep it if it is mechanically sound unless it is going to be a financial hardship and buy DD (under 3k). Create a MM paint fund and when you have enough repaint the whole car.

I cant believe you do not have a tune or gears for the car yet. It makes the car so much more fun to drive and then you wouldnt think of getting rid of it! Get another DD car, put the tune and gears in and start saving for a paint job. They dont make em like the MM anymore! Just my .02.

I thought with the way your dad does the Old school Nova's that you would already be supercharged with Flames!!!!!

Seriously, go get a tune and gears and then let us know what you think of the difference. The way the car will feel is like night and day and it will inspire you to save money for the new paint job. That's the order I would go in.

I had actually PM'ed Dennis about his tune and I just need to pull the trigger on it. I would like to put gear in first though. Is that the right order? I am horrible with this tuner crap. Give me a carbeurator! haha

Paul T. Casey
05-12-2010, 10:47 AM
Go ahead and buy a hand-held Tuner from someone. Have that someone install his tune on it (you mentioned Dennis). Do this first. There should be some user parameters to adjust for gears when you get to it.

Better idea. Go see Dez.

1 Bad Merc
05-12-2010, 10:47 AM
Do the gear first and then get a tune for the gear ratio you choose. Most vendors will give you a tuner with a program for the 4:10 (or whatever you choose) which also corrects your speedometer. It is really easy to plug the tuner in and download the tune -Plugs right under the dash by the steering wheel. Dont wait any longer and pull the trigger on this! You wont regret it!

1 Bad Merc
05-12-2010, 10:50 AM
I just read Paul's message and you can do it either way! I just thought it would be easier for you if you are not tuner inclined to have the tune for the gear ratio you are going to run already in the tuner. This is the must do upgrade for the Marauder!

After reading all the posts, paying particular attention to how you refer to the car, there is a discernable negative trend. In the words of BB King, "The thrill is gone".

Sell the car for what you can get and buy a something that will rekindle the fire.
